Mens Downhill

haha dude I understand that usually ski racing is pretty gay, but the downhill is by far the most dangerous and badass ski racing competition. Its a 50 person, 1 run ski race , that only happens every 4 years.

People were clocked going over 90 mph in practice. I think you gotta respect all kinds of skiing once in a while.

Yeah anyone who hates on olympic racing is 12

Will definitely be checking this out eventually.

If you can get a Canadian VPN, men's dh and women's slopestyle (snowboarding) is on the CBC Olympic site right now. If you use Chrome, get the Hola extension and you're good to go.

wow. even downhill coaches are badass.

Apparently they do this all the time.

Once in a while? Why wouldn't you respect ski racing all the time? The shit they do is just as gnarly as anything park skiers do. Anyone who actually hates on ski racing for being "gay" is a fucking dumbass.

Maybe things would have gone better if he didn't hit every other gate on the bottom half of the course. He looked pretty crushed though.

Did anyone see Bode throw a shifty on the last jump? The commentators for GB called it a mule kick. Sad to see he didn't make the medals, he really went for it.

90mph on a sheet of ice, fuck downhill is gnarly... and a relative outsider always seems to win. How can anyone hate on that??

Really bummed for Bode. If i wanted anyone to get a gold in the olympics it was him, since Wally didnt make the freeski team..

Agreed, looked like the whole field was skiing pretty aggressively, but Bode kept coming out of position at each gate and was much more upright than the likes of Mayer.

according to one of the Canadian skiers the course was shit your pants scary since you're completely blind for what's coming ahead through pretty much the whole course.

If you can find the second day training video (again, everything is on CBC, but I'm in Canada), the first run is a POV. It's pretty crazy.

I wish I had grown up racing, all my friends who had started into "freestyle" had humble beginnings as little race rats. Such a good basis for proper skiing, aka actually using your edges unlike a lot of people I see in parks.

You can have respect for it, doesn't mean you have to think its the cats pajamas

watched some of it on tv and my legs were burning just seeing it. shit is insane and definitely one of the best olympic events. seems like its not a comp that gets boring by being dominated by the same people every time.

that pov video is sick. pretty gnar that the guy was able to talk, hold a camera and still rip fucking fast

NBC had the worst coverage of this event for "prime time". More like ad time. Jesus. What a disgrace. So glad I watched it at 2 am EST rather than waiting until they showed it later. They missed half the fucking field.

He was hitting the gates to try and cut his line down, skiing crazy aggressive. You usually don't do that in DH b/c at 80mph hitting a gate can fuck you pretty bad.

As far as how low Bode gets, he always skis a bit more upright than most.
