Meniscus

I tore my meniscus playing soccer this fall. The orthopedist said I wouldn't need surgery. I was wondering if anyone knew how it would affect my skiing.

That really sucks, +vibes to your knee......I would be more careful skiing, at least at first. Torn Ligaments and sprains never heal back to their full strength. I sprained my ankle skimboarding this summer and my doctor told me that it takes about 6 months on average to regain about 75% of the strength, and after about a year it is healed to about 90% which is as good as it gets.

Your knee will probably fell weaker. Try and do a lot of strenghting of your VMO and Quad. If you can do lots of squats and one leg jumps and it strenghtens your knee and helps your leg put less pressure on your Miniscus.

Take it easy at first and if anything hurts particularily much don't do it.

well the meniscus is like the shock absorber of the knee so im pretty sure that it wont feel to great landing jumps and what not but im not sure how badly you tore it and how recently it was, but definately do whatever your doc says to get it to heal quickly and properly.

id say just take it easy and see how it feels and go by that, my friend tore his meniscus and needed surgery and couldnt ski but if you dont need surgery you should be ok.

Usually if you don't need surgery then the tear is small enough that it will heal 100%. It might take some time though, so in the mean time, definitely get as strong as possible so you don't damage it more, and take it easy.
