It depends on where you are lookin at. Right now all of heather canyon is pretty sketchy, at least the stuff above the treeline. I haven't been there yet, but if you were to get below the treeline into private reserve area you could find some goods. A good bet might be to hike up a little from the hrm parking lot, there are some nice bowls accessed from there. Also, I have seen many tracks skiers right off of cascade into that valley. Just make sure you know what you are doing if you get back there.

The best place to go for backcountry off meadows is white river canyon. You can drop in from the top of cascade or hike up a bit first. You can ride the chair up and do it, but just make sure nobody sees you drop in. Then just ski down the canyon unil you get back to highway 35, have a car stashed or hitch hike and do it again.

as for white river, how long is the traverse out? is it just one huge canyon once you get in or are there different smaller ones? is there much hiking necessary to get back to 35 or is mostly skating? I have been looking at it for a couple years but have never dropped in.

there are several routes out, go with some one that knows what's up. or take the chance of goin in the water (whiteriver) or get stuck up above the cliffs above the miraim creek drainage or in it. it is a lot of fun but you can get screwed if you go the wrong way. I hit on sunday it was sweet. not enough snow to get across the river so you have to take the eastside route.

sounds good... will wait for snow though... anybody ever hike up to build booters?
