MCL pain

I strained my MCL back in March (confirmed by my Doc) and it's still doing my head in.

INot painful as such anymore, but just the odd twinge here and there but it's been months now and it's still bothering me.

Seems to be worst in the morning when it's tightened up overnight. Cycling seems to help as I feel like it's strengthening the ligament again, but I really have no idea because I think I'd have recovered by now if so.

Anyone got any tips to help jump over this final hurdle? Certain stretches etc?

No better community to ask than the ski community

I sprained mine bad 2 years ago in the middle of the season, took 5-6 weeks to ski again initially. i think i had some weirdness too even when i was hiking like 4-5 months later but was 100% for sure by six months.

Have you been doing all your PT exercises? if you are worried id make a followup, but you should be fine soon, maybe redo some pt exercises if you have since stopped.

I was diagnosed with a “strained ACL” 2 years ago and it took a solid 12 months for me to finally not be constantly thinking about it. It will eventually subside in your brain whether that means actual physical pain going away or your brain learning to deal with it. Regardless I’m confident you’ll feel better on it in time. I felt the same exact way and believe me I wish I had someone to tell me I was gonna be fine. Because at the time I couldn’t get over it and I thought I would never be able to crouch into booters anymore. This past season I was basically at 100% on it. So just give it time and also do your PT! It’s so important to get the strength back. Hope you feel better

Also side note I spent that whole summer mountain biking and I think that definitely made it stronger after the injury

What grade of strain is it? Some strains are actually partial tears. Any meniscus involvement? MCLs usually heal just fine with therapy

I tore my mcl last winter and biking really helped so keep that up. You could always go get some pt too if you dont see any improvement

Can't answer either of those questions I'm afraid haha, no idea.

I wouldn't be surprised if I'd partially torn it, was frickin agony for the first few days and although I could fully weight bear, I could barely move my knee for a week

Strengthening it is key. I partially tore mine a few years back and didn't do anything for it, just threw a brace on and kept skiing. That wasn't the smartest in retrospect, but if you keep cycling and stretching it you should recover well. When I stopped skiing that year it took maybe 2 months of that to get it back up and running.
