May I Complain?

Budgeting ski trips the other day and it’s going to be cheaper for me to fly to Chile and roadtrip through the Andes next summer than spending a week at Palisades this winter.

Few years ago I wanted to fly from the east to ski Mammoth in the spring but flew to France to ski val thorens instead cause it was way cheaper even if I had bought an Ikon pass early. I'm probably gonna keep doing trips to Europe than in the US for this reason.

I'm gonna keep getting season passes to my relatively small and independent east coast resort. Lines are never bad, safety patrol basically don't care, trails only have closed signs if they're seriously fucked and the parks are decent.

Killington is impossible to ski on for anyone above 18 nowadays. Even 17 year old buying a ticket has me fucked up INCLUDING the ikon friends and family discount my homies share with me. It's upwards of around 120 a ticket FOR A MINOR. Corporate skiing is getting crazier and crazier

Friends and family is the biggest load of shit ever. My friend about lost his mind at the snowbird ticket window when they told us the price. Absolutely garbage.

People have asked me for years why I never moved out of the midwest. This right here is exactly why

This is the way

$118 for a lift ticket at Snoqualmie.

$132 for a lift ticket at Stevens.

The audacity for these mountains to think they’re worth that just blows my mind. I just don’t understand it, even on ‘peak days’. These corporations don’t need to charge that high.. do they??

I know it sounds like a woe is me post, and to be honest, I guess it is. I’ll own that. Anybody else just bummed out by how much the checking account gets gouged now for the love of snow?

Almost every hill on the east coast is now north of a hundred dollars for the day. Insane that any place in New England thinks it’s worth that but people will pay so they will charge it ??

Mammoth is pretty much the only resort I can do out west because I stay with family who live in Mono County and borrow their car. It's still only slightly cheaper than Europe or SA.

That sounds a lot like why I got a pass at Cannon this year.

After reading more of this thread, I’m praying for higher prices. It will take care of keeping more of you nonworking woke ass track pant wearing beaters off the mtn. That’s the best part!

"My dad owns a house in LCC/BCC/PC" Type beat right here.

$199USD for a day ticket at Stowe VT with poor conditions and hardly anything open, and $30 parking fri-sunday haha what a JOKE

Spring/summer/fall were always a loss and time to take out loans (mountain biking etc has offset this some). They’re trying to stop this/minimize it

Epic and Ikon would love to move to a pass only product actually. you know how fuckin sick it is to get the majority of your money before you even open?? There is so much more financial stability in pass products. Day tickets are all speculation and subjective based on the condition especially for snowmaking, economic stability, PR things like chairlifts blowing off lines with guests on it etc. i would be extremely surprised to see anyone phase out season passes. I even think the outrageous day ticket prices are literally to push more guests to pass products. Breck will be $250 next week and they are even capping day sale tickets. They want you to get an epic/ikon pass. They want you to spread out the days you visit to be more mid week. They want you to subscribe to their pass products as you are less likely to spend your money elsewhere and also more likely to buy lessons, food, lodging, etc at their auxiliary outlets.

It’s always amusing when people use these huge generalized stereotypes without asking legitimate questions. Why comment like a clown?

I’d be willing to bet that most people that have commented in this thread are hard-working, and are just bummed that they have to choose between paying bills and paying for skiing. It used to be easy to do both.

But I agree, its madness, feels like you either pick the Ikon cult or the Epic cult and you can't afford to leave to visit any other mountain.

Its funny that people feel like they need to buy an epic or ikon pass or they are missing out. why ride a bunch of places you dont know at all instead of ride 1 maybe 2 places you know very well?

Work harder.

In many cases an Ikon or Epic pass is cheaper than a season pass. For example, Sugarbush will sell you a season pass for $1500, even though they are unlimited on Ikon. From my understanding, most people who own a mega-pass still have a favorite local resort they usually go to
