Matej actually won big air?

Anybody else see the post in his story? Scored two 48s on different tricks, resulting in a total of 96, that would have beat AHall - but they were incorrectly logged as the same nose butter 19 and therefore didn't count.

Am I misunderstanding this? Feel like there already would have been a thread on this because it might be the wackest thing I've seen come out of Xgames

What tricks were they? I know they were saying they counted a roght sode 10 and 12 as the same because it's adding a 180 to the same rotation.

I wasn't paying that close attention though.

Bring me back to the good old days of Simon's dub front winning gold :)

I'm kidding btw, who's got the pitchforks?

idk why they removed the left and right spin tequirement, it’s the easiest way to just flat out say whether or not the trick is different

One was a trip 19 and one was a quad. I guess maybe that makes sense, but those feel like pretty damn different tricks to me.

One was switch and one was a nosebutter right? Along with the differing number of corks. Some bs for sure

Wow yep didn't even realize that - the quad was switch

regardless of spin direction if one trick is switch and one is forward they’re definitely different tricks imo

I was wondering how his second trick didn't score better than a 36. So whack. Everyone slayed it but Matej deserved the win and apparently did win. I hope they get him his medal

That was such a painful moment. Thank jebus they got rid of fan voting.

If AHall was a beauty he would give the gold to Matej but at the same time I don't blame him for not doing it considering the fact that Matej will probably go on the craziest win streak of all time after this

The judges at Xgames are terrible. It's not fair to the athletes who podium'd, or to Matej. Judges clearly don't even know the tricks the skiers are throwing anymore.

Last time I checked its a lot harder to do a quad than a triple

What??? The 48s were for his nosebutter triple 19 safety and nosebutter double 19 japan. The judges plugged in “nosebutter 19” and it counted as the same trick. I think it’s wrong, but that’s what happened. Also the judges probably counted the quad as a triple because the third flip was more of a spin. That’s why the quad only scored high 30s.

Henrik flat-out asked them to change it, the reason:

indeed. I was wondering if the judges' reasoning was that he took of forward and spun left both times but i know they don't have that requirement anymore.. i think either way a dub 19 bUiCK and sw dub 21 BuICk are more similar than a dub and a triple with different grabs. future spin gotta win i suppose

Honestly the bigger the spins get and the more everyone has them it's going to get harder to judge. Both how to rank 1 against another, and then the nuances of the trick on top of that.

Matej is about to win the next 5+ years.

Hopefully the X-games sale will bring a better future for the event.

We figured this out in the official games thread and the NS article on the event notes this controversy in the opening lines.

According the the rules stated during the broadcast, Matej clearly should have won.

but Alex went to the future and stole that shit.

I think mandating right and left turns definitely leaves no room for discrepancy in differentiating tricks- but idk, pretty obvious to me both Matej's tricks were notably different so I think the judges fucked up.

Also I think removing it does allow for competitors to really work on throwing their craziest tricks down since they don't have to worry about throwing an unnatural trick if they don't want to, which could ultimately lead to more progression.

Judas and Pilate did 180s in 33 AD

lol i doubt judas and pilate ever skied but skiing is thought to have existed since around 5,000 years ago so future spins must have been commonplace assuming anybody was catching some air
