Masters thread

awesome first day, its gonna get nasty out there the next few days. I see someone like koepka holding, could see someone like rahm or rory sticking around close, scotty will be top 5 no doubt. not sure if victor is gonna stay at the top but he had a hell of a day 1.

Big facts, Hovland played a great first day. Unfortunate if anyone from LIV wins imo but we’ll have to see. Rahm played great golf yesterday especially given his first hole.

meh im kinda over the LIV shit, the good players (koepka, DJ, cam smith, phil) are fun to watch and they have all earned their spots at majors, not really bad if a previous major champion wins a major.

Now if some random LIV guy like Abraham Ancer who hasn't won a major before and was "stolen" by LIV than sure, that would be bad for the PGA. This could happen at a major eventually, but those small dogs on the LIV without a major championship are going to have a very hard time qualifying for future majors.

Eh I guess, I just don’t like the whole “we’re trying to improve golf and no one can see it” crap they talk about. It sucks that a lot of the young guys moved there so quick just for the guaranteed paycheck, I think it takes away a lot of competitive drive personally but that’s just me. I think a lot of the guys who are still on the PGA are just as interesting to watch too.

i mean they got like < 10% of the up and coming tour players, it's a small amount in the end. The PGA events are very competitive still and the system of bringing in new young golfers from feeder tours is better than ever. Plus, the big dogs still go to the majors, which makes them even more prestigious.

I dont really blame them though, they're earning generational wealth and work far less. I'd say a good amount of pro golfers dont care about legacy, their job is playing golf and if they get a 'better job' with LIV then whatever.

PGA has been great to watch and LIV forced the PGAs hand to change a ton of shit that greatly benefits the players. LIV will fizzle out in the next 5-10 years and the PGA tour will be better because of LIV's existence.
 
The cool thing about the masters is most time it comes down to the weekend with someone just getting into the zone and going off. I was really hoping to see Rory do well, he is so fun to watch when he is playing well. Looks like Koepka could def make a run for it, as long as he can keep his swing consistent and his putting good through the weekend. But if I had to put money on it, I think Rahm is gonna win

koepka seems to be on an insane redemption arc. I heard of a couple of golf pundits saying that if koepka is healthy, hes unstoppable. Only reason he played so bad for awhile was because he was injured and refused to take time off. So he goes to LIV, gets a bunch of time off and now he's hot.

Gotta agree here, I would love to see Sam Bennett win. Seems like a real nice kid and he’s playing insanely good golf, can’t imagine the pressure he feels as an amateur at this event.

I feel bad for phil, the whole LIV stuff is going to mess with his legacy and truly how good he was/is. It wouldve been so cool to watch it go to a playoff or something, but Rahm was rolling
