Hello Coloradans,

this March my family and I are making our first trip out to Colorado, we are staying a week in Leadville mid March, This is my first time out to REAL MOUNTAINS WITH REAL SNOW so needless to say i am very excite :D

We will be renting a SUV and want to know where we should ski that is not too far from Leadville, this will be in March so i don't know how often you get snow storms in March but if it starts dumping i will surely want to ski the best Mountain for it. my little bro is super excited for park but we will be skiing with the parents too, I am open to any suggestions!

(PS I know this is a far time away but I can't stop thinking about this trip)

Ski Cooper is the shortest drive from Leadville. I have never skied there so I can't tell you anything about it.

Other than that, Copper is the closest resort to Leadville. If I had to guess, I'd say it's about 20 minutes away. You're also about a 30 minute drive from Vail and Beaver Creek.

My favorite mountain is Vail because there are no lift lines if you just want to lap the park, and it has the back bowls + blue sky which are great on powder days.

ski cooper is bad compared to what else is around, not worth your time IMO copper is close to leadville and is pretty legit

Vail and Beaver Creek will be slightly more expensive, Breck (not too far from leadville) and Copper are about the same. If you get a Breck/Keystone ticket, they will also be good at Abay, and at Vail like 2 out of 5 days or some shit like that.

Although, Breck geographically is right next to Copper, there is no road between the two so Breck is an extra 25 minute drive after you have already passed Copper.

Copper 4-pack is $140 right now, which I would consider a pretty good deal. http://www.coppercolorado.com/winter/plan_and_buy/season_passes

4 day ticket at Vail/Beaver Creek is $360, which isn't such a good deal.

4 day ticket at Keystone/A-basin is $332, also not a good deal.

I think Vail is the best mountain, but the extra money you will be spending isn't worth it. I would recommend going to Copper.

no road between copper and breck? you crazy, sure you can't drop off the back of breck and get to copper (illegal) but the drive is like 15 minutes on I-70 depending on traffic

a colorado pass, is only $330 for a teen and that gets you 10days at vail or beaver creek and unlimited at breck keystone and abasin

so that might be worthwile depending on how long you're there

Obviously there is a road between them. What I meant was that there is no direct (relatively straight) route from Copper to Breck. To get to Breck from Copper you have to take I-70 to Frisco, then you have to take highway 9 into Breck.

I just went to google maps to get the driving time between each. I found,

Leadville to Copper: 43 minutes

Leadville to Vail: 54 minutes

Copper to Breck: 25 minutes

Copper to Keystone: 24 minutes

I need more data about the trip. How long are you staying for? How much does the length of the drive matter to you? How much does lift ticket price matter to you? What are you looking to ski? How old are you (teen pass or adult pass)?

SKY chutes are not illegal its national forest, you can go up from the copper side all you want or even hike up from breck side, just not allowed to duck any ropes from in bounds due to liability reasons.

5 adults 1 Teen. Staying between 5 March and 13th. Most likely skiing 5 or 6 days,4 of those days with full company. the remaining 2 days with a party of 3.

I have been looking at the Colorado Pass, the Summit Pass and the Copper Four Pack. Are there any others ticket packages that are worth looking into?

We are renting a Suv most likely so gas is going to rack up but it is anticipated but we probably won't want to be traveling 150 miles to the resort.

Also any suggestion for a fun down day Mountain close to Leadville are welcomed and even better if cheap.

+k
