This is called progress. Without it, humans serve essentially no purpose. Humans will always build more stuff that is bigger, faster, stronger, and uses more breakthrough innovative ideas. This is just the way it works.
 
new york's metro area is actually larger than la's. new york has a metro area of about 18 thousand square km, while la has a metro area of only 11 thousand. ever hear of new jersey?

you're trying gain awareness and call yourself a "modern day hippy (minus the drugs)" (minus the drugs? ok, so you're a "poser") and last i checked hippies are PEACEFUL people. they're also very misguided and often are so separated, mentally, from the rest of reality that they end up coming up with stupid ideas such as "flower power". so, this creates a few problems for you. first, if you're claiming to be a hippy, a peaceful person, but calling someone a "fucking idiot", an "idiot", then proceeding to tell them to service their own genitalia orally, NOBODY IS GOING TO TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY. this is a point you must grasp or you will ALWAYS be a joke- NOBODY TAKES ANGRY HIPPIES SERIOUSLY. actually, now that i think about it, nobody really takes any kind of hippy seriously, so you're kinda fucked. you being fucked aside, there are a number of other problems you're going to face. the first of which being that the post you quoted and got so pissy about is RIGHT. humans are social creatures, reproduce rapidly, and tend to live in LARGE group environments. this said, it's stunningly obvious that people are going to end up changing various landscapes into whatever they please. forest and swamp land will be bulldozed over and buildings (such as they one you're sitting in right now) are going to be built.
this isn't tragedy. the tragedy is that we, as humans, have the power to destroy whatever we want, yet lack the compassion, as a whole, to preserve what we can.
so, instead of bitching, moaning, and throwing granola-packed shit in people's faces, why don't you take some time to work on your delivery? you come off as some whiny tree-hugger, not someone any of us on here are going to take seriously.
 
seems to me that by building on manhattan island we solved the rampant problem of forest fires in the region.

sorry for the dub post but....if the same number of people dispersed and spread out across land, you wouldn't have these pointless pictures to post, but the environmental damage would be much worse. the flaw in your argument is that urban living is the most efficient.

I could find pictures of land on the earth that has barely even seen humans, if at all. I have been to some of these places. There is alot of "wild" land still out there that is uninhabitable by humans.

Unfortunately humans multiply like crazy. Unfortunately there are idiots out there who pollute like crazy and those bastards need to be stopped. The USA is actually pretty advanced compared to other countries because we have septic systems and do our best to make sure water is clean, but think about other countries. We have landfills that are usually well designed. Do you think other countries have engineered septic systems? Some countries do, some probably do not.

Do not try to attack the USA for ruining the planet. I'd say we are doing a good job over here.

Oh didn't catch the developed countries, that's true. But the overall population is still increasing, which is a bit worrisome.

one way i think its AMAZING in regards to science is farming. the quality and quantity of food farmers can grow is astounding.
