Mandatory seat belt laws

So during dinner my mom, dad and I got into a huge discussion about mandatory seat belt laws. my mom, being very protective, thinks that of course there should be the mandatory laws and at the same time it helps health care and saves lots of money due to less injuries. My dad on the other hand thinks that it should be up to the individual since by not wearing a seatbelt it doesn't physically harm anyone else. I'm in the middle. i for one wear a seat belt but also think that it should be up to the individual to decide.

what do you think?

i just think people should wear a seatbelt so that they dont fucking cost health care money and take up hospital beds. if its like here in ottawa, the hospitals are overflowing, and they dont need injuries that could have been prevented

i think there anoying to wear, but it was pretty annoying to pay 120$ to the truckee police when he saw me w/o one on.

Why wouldn't you wear one? Wow, they're uncomfortable, they could save your life. Just be happy that somebody's concerned with your safety, even if you aren't. And lecket's gota damn good point.

having been in an accident without one, i say its up to the individual to choose. yes i will wear one from now on, but in that accident, not one of the 3 people in the car had their seatbelt on, and the worst injury was a bruise on my little brothers leg. call me stupid for not wearing one, but i dont care. i was not harmed at all for being in an accident without one. i have changed my opinion on them and now do always wear mine though. i think the states should not regulate it because its your own choice, and you shouldnt have to pay money if you choose not to wear it. plus, i hear that if it happens, they arent telling the people that it has happened.

honestly, lung cancer and other smoking related illness's shouldnt be covered under OHIP anymore, shits costing us way too much money. if you smoke its your own damn fault

Actually, its not always true that it doesnt harm anyone else if you don't wear yours. If someone in the back isnt wearing a seatbelt in a high speed crash they can cause serious harm and even death to others in the car by thier body flying forwards into the seatback or sideways into another backseat passenger.

Don't be dumb, wear a seatbelt, it's like wearing a helmet skiing...its 'just in case'.

I'm kind of undecided on that issue. If everybody was required to wear seatbelts it would be safer and would save the taxpayers money, but at the same time if you give people the option it's Darwinism at its finest.

why cant we have both, tax the hell out of smokers AND refuse to pay there medical bills, win win

i think they should exist. not because I give a shit about people (maybe I do, maybe I dont) but because they will keep insurance down.

i always rock my seat belt... cause when you turn on the car theres a little red guy with his seatbelt on...

i personally always wear one, but i think it should be personal choice

today i saw they are creating the first motorcycle with an airbag, worthless

well if youre in the back seat and you dont wear a seat belt you can fly forward and hit the people in the front seat and harm them even if they were wearing their seat belts so wear them fuckers

well all i know is that when i got into a car accident if i wasnt wearing a seatbelt i wouldve definetly flown threw the windsheild and gotten seriously injured or maybe die, so i think its a good idea to wear one whenever oyu can

i fully support manditory seatbelt laws. Even with my seatbelt on when i got in my car crash (I was t-boned at 80kmh)i still put my head trough the window, but if i didnt have one on i could have gone all the way out into the other car and died, actually i could have still died the way i was, shit thats concerning.

personally i think it should be optional. i myself get very uncomfortable when i have one on. yes they have saved peoples lives. but i have also seen people that have died due to wearing them.
