Man charged for reckless skiing in pc

PARK CITY -- A Salt Lake City man could be the first person ever charged under a relatively new reckless skiing law in Park City.

Witnesses say the skier was flying down a beginners trail on a Park City mountain when he slid 30 feet and collided with an 11-year-old Pennsylvania girl. The crash threw the girl through the air and broke her arm.

The park record says other skiers yelled at the man and held him until ski patrol arrived. The girl's father wants to press charges.

If prosecutors move forward, he would be the first person charged under the city's reckless skiing law.

thats the story off ksl.com

who knows more about it? and what do you think? i say the dude is an idiot for sucking at life just then

i think this guy deserves to be charged. im sure that little girl will be scarred for a long time, and it could ruin her impression of skiing. plus the fact that she broke her arm and medical bills and whatnot

I agree with that this guy should be charged, he sounds like a dumbass.

However, this law sounds like its opening the door for in control skiers (read: good) going fast through slow areas being charged with reckless skiing . Or people skiing switch being charged. It seems to me, it MIGHT go from a law to hold dumbass skiers who hit people accountable to charging any behavior that seems "reckless" to safety patrol.

That's just me, though. Thoughts?

They should for sure press charges. Its the mans fucking fault for beings reckless and not learning how to ski before he went on the big boy hills. God I hate Gapers....

I know what your saying, but these charges really need to be a case by case deal. There are so many factors that are involved. One of the main factors imo is the slow skiing area. If this is strictly a learning area, not just a slow zone where trails merge or a slow zone near a lift this guy should be sued. Areas for new skiers or boarders need to be designated and regulated. Learning areas should also be in a place where "advanced" skiers or boarders are not needing to go through to get to another run or what not. How would you like it if it was your first time skiing and someone crused by you going 40 mph, in control or not. A slow skiing zone is different.

it was a stupid mistake. i bet the girls father is a jerk pressing charges is uneccesary. he should be mad at himself for not watching out for her.

ok someone falling is a bit different than some fucking gaper trying to go fast loosing control and then crashing into a girl and breaking her arm. He deserves to get charged and should atleast pay the medical bills.

that's ridiculous. i hate people who ski out of control but i mean if you're going to ski you need to know that you could fall or get hit and break something. it's life. accidents happen.

you sound like an idiot. do you constantly look backwards while skiing to make sure there aren't any gapers charging at you out of control, on a beginner trail? No... you don't. This kid deserves to be charged because his stupidity injured someone else. /rant

that guy must of been hauling major ass. who knows. maybe the guy was an experienced skier and the 11 year old and her dad were probably beginners on the wrong hill at the wrong time.

"slid 30 feet"

that's really not that long of a distance to be sliding, especially if he was a beginner that was out of control and couldn't stop so he fell down on purpos

stupid law, the dude might not have been able to stop. i mean he could have been a total gaper whos just learning and picked up spped way too damn fast

totally agree, i think this law is gonna get power trippin people to charge skiiers for accidents that happened at their own risks in situations where they shouldnt be charged...like fuck cmon its skiing not driving. ppl fall and eat shit all the time. its part of the game. thats why the skiiers code exists. if this guy was an asshole tearing through and cought ege then yeah he should have consequences but if he was just a gaper eating shit then why would he get charged!?? not his fault he sucks....something tells me hes just an asshole though.

What happens though when we come off a jump and run into a gaper on the landing do we get charged with reckless skiing? I feel though this case it is neccesary but it could open a can of worms nobody wants

guyz it was twalls little cousin that the guy ran into, so of course they should press charges since twall is a PC allstar. tom should go kick the guys ass.

so one day i was cruising through the mini-park on my way back to the main lodge when i see a little japanese girl skiing over a 6 foot jump and stopping right on the landing. Above, a 12 year old fucktard assface decides to "go huge" and 3's right into the little girl. it might as well have been a football tackle, the girl had been slammed head on and was out cold, lying face down in the snow. i immediately kicked my skis off and rushed over to her, fearing for the worst. i took a look at her face (luckily she was wearing a helmet) and realized she was bleeding from the mouth. frantically yelling "ski patrol!" with a 5 year old girl bleeding from the mouth, from the corner of my eye i see that cuntfuck that ran into her get up and clip into his 151 invaders in an attempt to flee the scene. i shout "where the fuck do you think you're going!" and he just moves faster, so i pushed him over and threw his ski far into the forest while i go back to the innocent girl still face down in the snow. After about a minute i see the ski patrol coming down the pipe while this girl starts letting out the most awfull, scarring, sad crying noises while she spits out the blood coming from a front tooth, that i later learn was knocked out (baby teeth ftw). I was scared to death, had no idea what to do and had to listen to her screaming for about 2 minutes. The ski po po got there and pretty much took over. One of them asked me "did you hit her?", i responded with a silent pointing finger towards the 1 skied 12 year old, who was crying as well. not tears of pain, but tears of shame.
this is the second time i have told this story and i know it will haunt me for as long as i see a little asain girl in the minipark....

are you that fucking stupid? if that was the case then ski resorts in america wouldn't exist. although there have been some dumb cases, there still is a line between responsible and just downright retarded.

im pretty sure this isnt recent. at my local river valley ski hill in edmonton there is an article on the wall about a guy from pc getting charged with reckless skiing. its been up there for as long as i can remember

this is simple. you guys have more than numerous opportunities and places to ski however you want, and hills even cater to you now so there's no reason for you to act like a douche on beginner runs which are for well, gapers and little kids and what not. so. keep that in mind. if you don't want people like this ruining the sport you've grown to love, don't be this douche and don't let your friends be him either.

haha what a little doucher. this is going to leave a bad mark on skiing. but i cant wait to see this guys face on the tv, he probably just raped this girls thoughts about skiing. too bad this happened. GAPER.

In my personal opinion i think that he should be charged because if he tried to flee the seen and shit hes not a good person in the first place. If i hit some one like that i would make sure that the person was ok and i would feel like it my duty to pay for some if not all the medical bills. Its gay how people have no respect for eachother and are just lookin after their own ass. so hell ya sue that mo fo

Pressing charges? Really? That's fucked up. Too bad for the girl, but come on? Are we talking about jailtime or some fines here?

I doubt he will go to jail. But in my opinion skiing is like driving a car. When someone kills a person while driving it is called vehicular manslaughter. If you cause an injury doing that, then you get sued and are held responsible. What if he had crashed into, and she had a TBI and was retarded for the rest of her life? WOuld you say the suit was ridiculous then? No, you would support it. The problem is that suits like this are about the idea rather than the specifics of each case. They have to hold this guy responsible for his actions. If you can't control yourself, get off the snow.

I definitely understand your point, but I've seen a lot of threads lately about skiers on NS being pass-clipped or given warnings etc. for skiing switch in any area for "endangering" others. I just see this new law over there as a bad omen. Imagine that you are in complete control, skiing switch when someone who is not in control gets in your way. You're fine, but that person gets paralyzed/hurt/angry enough to sue your ass. Who do you think will get the benefit of the doubt in a court when a jury hears that you were "going backwards and not EVEN seeing what was happening downhill!!!"

Just my two cents..
