Mammoth/Bear trip

Hey guys, I've been planning for a trip to mammoth and bear this upcoming spring and I was wondering if there were any good spots to camp for free/cheap in the area. Also, if you guys know when mam and bear are closing that would be great. I was planning on hitting up hood in may but if mammoth and bear close in may I might just do those two and skip hood (I know hood's dope but Mam is higher priority cause I got my ikon pass this year). Any other info/help/ski buddies is appreciated. Give me your thoughts NS fam.

I should be in Cali around mid April depending on when the resorts close.

Thanks for your help!

Nobody can read the future. That being said, Bear usually closes the first or second week of April. Mammoth is blessed with a great snowpack, and they'll stay open through June or July (and even August) if they have snow.

There's tons of great camping near Mammoth. Check recreation.gov for campgrounds. They have some amenities but usually cost $10-$20/night. You can also do dispersed camping for free. Just make sure you're not on private land. There's a good map you can use here:https://www.essrp.org/camping

Down the street on road 38 (it’s off road 8 in big bear) there’s a ton of free campsite spots where I stay in my car. Just gotta be careful because it’s bear country
