Making the best of bad conditions

Many times the best shots are taken in the best weather and in the perfect light. as most of us know here on NS, the conditions make a large impact on the shots. But what do you do when the conditions aren't so good?

I took this the other day, it was down pouring. So I found a dry place where he could sit and I could still get the background in. You can't tell it's pouring because of the bokeh so you'll have to take my word for it.

So the question is this:

What tips and tricks do you have that will help get good shots in not so ideal conditions?
