Making a vest...

I have an old Burton Ronin Transitition Jacket and I want to make it into a vest. The catch is, it has pit-zips. So, would the best option be to go to a tailor and let them do it? Or is there still an easy way to do it myself?
+K for helpful answers.
I can post pics of the jacket if anyone needs to see it.

hmm sounds tricky with zips
i recommend going to a tailor that way u can get it done legit and safe
if u try and manage to mess it up uve lost a jacket and a vest with only ureself to blame

hope i helped

if its a horizontal zipper you could probably just cut it off completely or leave it all. if its a vertical zip, my only thought could be to cut off the sleeve, but cut around the zipper, so youd have a vest with a hanging zipper, then bend it inward and sew it to the inside. i hope that makes sense, i didnt word it very well

It's vertical. So cut around the zipper that is on the sleeve itself, then sew that basically to where the other half is?

Bumping up an old thread here...

Anyway, I'm looking into turning an old jacket into a vest. I don't have any zipper issues with the arms, just wondering on how to make the vest. Should I cut the arms near the shoulder seam? Cut the arms a little further down, then sew it back under the seam?

Any help is much appreciated!
