Making a curved rail

by now i've almost mastered the making of flat rails and kinks, but how can you make like a rainbow or and s-rail? is their any way to curve pvc to make this stuff? if not what other materials?

ok so i talked to a bunch of people and they said its pretty much impossible to bend a 2x4, i was thinking about how to do this because i am planning on making a rollercoaster rail out of pvc, maybe you could find curved 2x4's online

you can cut the tops of the supports curved, with a jig saw or such, then put bent 1/4 inch ply on top for the base of the pvc. then screw the pvc to the plywood

thats a pretty good idea, or maybe put the 1/4 inch ply down and then put another layer of it then pvc just for added stregnth and stability

for a rollercoaster, you use plywood to form the sideview of the rail. when you have 2 of these patterns with humps in them cut out, you use short 2x4's to attach the plywood by screwing threw the plywood and into the end of the 2x4. you do this around the perimeter and then you have your frame. then you can shape some plywood to the curves on top of the frame, screw them down, then take hdpe, lexan, or small diameter pvc that will adhere to the curve as your sliding surface. hopefully that makes sense.

so what your saying is take the profile view of a rollercoaster and draw it onto plywood then cut that out (repeat) then take the two of them and connect them with 2x4's in the middle?

actually i did a rollercoaster box

i used a lot of wood and it kinda worked. THe picture here ^ is before i finished the box. In did the top part with some wierd resisting plastic.

(i also have some muticolor lights inside it haha, for fun.)

(the box is really fun to ride.

to do it you would have to do it with a ply wood to part whitch is what you screw the pbc to then you would put suports under it and there is your c rail/box.

Well if anyone looks at MY DRAGONS TAIL RAIL in the forum of back yard rails...i made that with 1 peice of PVC the whole way...to make it i used a 2x4 to make the hump...ADVISE: HAVE YOUR DAD HELP

So you use a skill saw and make cuts in the 2x4, but make sure it doesnt go all the way through...duh...so you do large gaps and the beginning of the curve...then at the Peak of the curve you do cuts that are very close togehter...NOTE: this is only for rainbows and drags tails....

Then for S rails and C rails you will want to make the wood so it can bend like a rainbow and just tilt it so you can get the S shape and the rails are kinda tilted (not sure if you get it) PM me if no....So if tilted then you screww the PVC (recommended 1/2 inch pvc cause it bends really easy...like on my rail...) so then you just make the frame and screw in the pvc

PM me with any questions
