ive decided on getting maidens this year i think ill probably get the 189's mabye? im about 5,8ish like 135 pounds. and im obviously gonna use them for pow pow alot, but i also plan on usin them in the park and for backcountry jumps and stuff.

so whats a good length and how should i mount them.

oh yeah and im also gettin stl's too and i think ill use my old bindings, and ive got the look p10's and the s912's so which should i use for my maidens? or should i get new ones?

i had 176 gottamas last year, and they felt alittle short, and i guess im a pretty strong skier, im only really concerned with being able to spin and stuff with them.

your only 135 pounds. 179 will be fine. These skis are huge so you dont need to go very long as they have a huge surface area @ 179cm

Dude...at your size, go with the 179...it's PLENTY big. Also, you mentioned wanting to be able to spin them. At 135#, the 189 will spin you, not the other way around.

Stick to the 179 and mount at +4 with your 912s...the Salo binders will save you a bit of weight on the beefy sticks.

yeah i also found out that k2 measures from the part of the ski that touches the snow not the tip. so when compared to other skis i guess they would be more like 185 or somethin?

im still considering getting the 189's though.

189 is too much of a ski for your height and weight. Especially as its 138 at the tip and 108mm at the waist. Vicious is right. The 189 would be spinning you. I think Vicious used to ski 179's until he traded them, and hes 6'3"!

Go big...you know what you can handle.

I've been trying to decide how far forward i want to mount my 189 Vicious, probably +4, because my pistols are not forward at all and i don't need two of the same ski.

I am 5"7 170 I ski 189 Maden's@+3 for inbounds pow and BC very easy/ nice pow ski. However at your weight go w/ 179. If you must go long mount + 5 or beyond especially if you want to spin. the actual surface length of the 189 Maden is arround 181/182cm so its definitely not a 193 Supermojo, 194 LP, or Iggy FFF. So you might be ok. But 179 Madens are fun kinda like skiing on two super quick snowboards.

+4 for a pow ski. seems a little wierd to me. although i dont know about made'ns. you do. but that seems wierd to mount them forward for pow. explain yourself kind sir.

Maidens are pretty wide and soft so if you go + 4 or even core center there's no tip dive{unless your big}

Mounting a pow ski forward will enable the ski to ride shorter{easier to turn} with out sacrficing the stability of a longer ski. Its also easier to spin em where ever your skiing. Maiden's have a really soft tail so I would not recomend skiing them at 0. Some pro's I know were all skiing there 189 Vicious's at plus five or beyond. a little extreme for me.

How manuverable is the 189 Made'N in trees with powder? Would these make a good everyday ski or should I look for something smaller?

Stu put it well.

the shovels of the Made'ns are wide and soft enough to keep you afloat even if you mount forward. The forward mount reduces the swing weight of these giant sticks greatly, which as Stu pointed out, makes spinning easier and the ski is more nimble.

The soft tail is another important point. As the Made'n tails are basically just as soft as the tips, altough I've never skied any mounted at 0, I'd assume the tails would wash out really easily. I find that with the forward mount, the extra tail actually makes the skis a bit more stable.

Anyway, I've skied Made'ns as several mount points and pesonally found that in my opinion, +4 is ideal if it's being used as mainly a pow ski. I'd go +5 or +6 if it's park/pow ski...that's where my 179s were and they were fun as hell, but just too short on most days.

Like I said, I like the 179s for park, but they were too short for me on deep days. I think the 189 will feel like alot of ski to you. Get the 179s if you plan on using them for varied conditions. Get the 189s if you only plan to use them for days with a foot or more of fresh.

yeah im also getting some park skis, ill be using the maidens definatly for powder days, then for some backcountry jumps and stuff, a little bit of park stuff, and for days when the snows shitty and stuff.

so like 55% powder 20% backcountry jumps, 15% park then 10% just for messing around and stuff.

i still think 179 is the way to go. they will still be over your head and as they are so big they will be sick in pow but you'll still have fun with BC kickers ect..

If you don't want to ski the maidens in 179cm than do yourself a huge favor and pick another fat ski with an in between length. The 189cm will be way to big for you no matter how strong you are. Consider the 4FRNT VCT in a 182cm it kicks ass bro. Check them out at sierrasnowboard.com they'll be for sale on there October 1st.

Scott you're like 5' 10" or 5' 11" and there is no way you only weigh 135 pounds. I weigh like 155 and we're almost the same size. I think the 189 is the way to go. With a forward mount they will feel smaller and more manageable. And ya I think I'm getting the 189's so you should too.

ok i just measured and weighed myself and im about 5'9"- 5'10" and i weigh 145 i dont know if that will make a difference. penis

dude the maidens don't come in a proper size for your ass. Don't be so closed minded. Are you even in to Iron Maiden?

189's sound pretty long for your stats

but the made'n's are def. tight skis. enjoy

Cininnati Newschoolers,

good times.

Be a bad ass and get the 189's. You know that's the ski you want. And I'm getting them in that size so you should too. We'll both just have to get used to them a little.

Ya Scott we'll be so cool. Does we should mount them pretty far forward though so they feel shorter and are better for spining. Does anyone think mounting them 2 or 3 back from the center would be a bad idea or do you have any other suggestions?

yeah so if i do get 189's should i get them mounted really close to center so they feel a little shorter?

get whatever size u think you will feel good on as for the bindings put the 912s on the maidens and the p10s on the stls

if you mount them forward are they still possibly to spin pretty quickly with in the park? like if i wanna do 270s onto rails would they own me or could i get em around?

-Killa Cam

your 5 foot 8 135lbs and you want to be able to jib around and do 270 onto rail on a 189cm Maiden...

Dude that ski at that size would be for powder only. Ya they can be used as a do everything, go everywhere ski, but at your size the 189 is going to be not agile in the park at all.

i think the 179 will do you plenty, and still be able to kill it in the backcountry with it, without any worries at all....

unless of course all you do is straightline alaskan chutes.... wait even then the 189 might be a little big.

I personally think you would have more fun on the 179. But ultimately it's up to you.

im 5'9" and about 145ish, but how big would you need to be to be able to get the 189 maidens and still be able to ski them in park, and trees and stuff? cause if most people who get them weigh like 180 or 190 or somethin then i probably just wont get them. but if people who weigh like 150-170ish use the 189's then i will definatly think about getting them.

dude Im 5'5" and I go 179 made'ns and they are beastly. I think you would be a fool to get them at 189 because you have no idea how fucking large that is. my 179s are like a foot above my head and I have them core center mounted and they are perfect. getting 189s is crazy enough, but if you get 189s and mount them somewhere beside tru center then they are going to be impossible to turn. my 179s WERE at mid sole but they felt way to heavy back there so I got core. I would reccomend the same thing for you.

Of course you don't have to follow my opinion but sometimes having a pow ski just as tall as you is nicer than having some that are bigger becuase with smaller ones you can do tricks easier, including switch pow, which is what the made'ns are made for. IF you don't even plan to do any pow freestyle with them and mount them far back then you're just fucking crazy, mate.

because I like pooh.

hahaha stupid dolphins.

wouldnt they be longer then, if the part that touches the snow is 189, then add the tip and tail
