Magna Carta Holy Grail. Jay-Z

Holy Grail's beat is way too insane. That song is the shit!! maybe a little be too much Timberlake but Jay-z definitely kills it.

Holy Grail, Picasso Baby, and Somewhere in America are all good (besides the "twerk Miley twerk" part)

that part is actually pretty funny given the context that it's in, the whole album is pretty much a masterpiece. you could tell from watching that video of him during the writing process how deep he got on a lyrical level with this

It was realeased to people on samsung in the uk iirc, and as such it was consequently leaked.

Ehhh IMO its not that great. Severe lack of flow on most songs. The huge pauses jay takes between lines and the million "uh's" on some of the songs is just panful and i feel like the only thing saving this albm frok extreme mediocrity is the production.

I agree that a couple songs have this problem. But even so they're still sick. And the ones where he goes off are wicked

finished the majority of the album. overall i was impressed. a couple of songs absolutely fucking blow, but those songs are the exceptions. certain songs are even reminiscent of old jay in my opinon. BBC, Nickels and Dimes, and Heaven are all fire tracks.

I wasn't super impressed with any of the songs, nothing really stood out like on 'watch the throne'.

I'd give it a 7/10.

Primetime is the best and most underrated song on that album.

Right now FUTW is my fave on MCHG. So many replays

Whattttt??? Disagree, I thought the vast majority of Watch The Thrown was absolutely banger.

I just think that with the combined talents of Jay-Z and KanYe West they could have made it a lot better. I wasn't really feeling the flows.

4 songs is pretty good compared to the 0 songs that were good on Magna Carta.

Watch the Throne did something new, they mixed elements of dubstep, electronic and hiphop that was revolutionary at that point in time. Magna Carta did nothing new, it just regurgitated the same old bullshit that's been going on since that album. Jay-Z needs to bring in new blood, a producer who is doing new things in the game - I'd personally like to see him team up with someone like Clams Casino or Chrome Sparks, someone with a really unique sound.

Yeah MCHG did nothing new.

Except sell a million copies before it was released.

And I disagree, everyone right now is trying to make spacey cloudy Clams beats, doesn't really sound that original anymore. And Jay's lyricism on this was amazing, and the production was extremely solid too.

I love Jay-Z and i love the album, but i was expecting more songs like Beach is better with a really fast, crazy beat. Also Jay-z rapped slower in this album.

You will like it they said,

The original Jay-Z is back they said,

He prepared me for this, I had a reasonable doubt ...

Considering 99% of the people on this website are white and not from the bronx, why do you care about Jay-Z and his history lessons that don't go together. He raps about stuff that doesn't apply to you. Listen to something better and maybe I may gain some respect for you "rap fans". /rant

The beats are all really clean but the whole album just sounds like background music at a party. BBC was lively though. But jay needs to stop hanging with Justin Timberlake and timbaland. Also the title is misleading. It makes it sound like an epic album when its just an average album. Oh and what's up with hit boy lately? His beats have gotten really samply. And travis scott sounded like shit. I thought he would turn out better based on the fact he made monster.

But basically nothing stands out on this album.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but doesn't it seem like a lot of the big name rappers have dropped albums this year? More than usual at least, but who hasn't?

A$AP Rocky

Kendrick Lamar

Jay-Z

Kanye West

J. Cole

Mac Miller

Kid Cudi

Lil Wayne

Kid Ink

Wale

Mike Stud(up and coming)

There's more I can't think of

Well it IS their jobs to make records. In recent years with the influx of pro tools in the editing of albums you can crank albums out incredibly fast. It makes sense G.

A few good beats and bars but overall kinda weak. I like Jay-Z a lot but I feel like this is him saying hey my little brother kanye showed me all these cool new clothing companies.

Overall I still like it and it will be on repeat all summer
