Mad River vs Snow Trails

How do the parks compare? I've been to mad river and it's not great, but it does the job. Just wondering if maybe I should head to snow trails instead for park?

Mad River vibes are 100x better. FACTS!

eh, shit has gone downhill since you moved west. Snow trails park is probably better on the average day

:( I got drunk last winter and went skiing a bunch and it was fun, but I feel you.

Great way to Midwest shred after the spoils of living out west. I like mad river more personally. On a whole, better jibs, and while their jumps may not be quite as good as snowtrails, the vibe and the fact it has a little pitch for when I want to rip around make it my place of choice

Bump for any more comments. Considering buying a season pass to either. About equidistant from my house for both. Passes are now similar in price. I'm not going to either of these places for quality skiing, because obviously that's nonexistent. Will have a ton of days off work so plan to just fuck around in the parks even though I haven't tried skiing park in years; any days on skis is better than sitting and playing video games on my days off. I prioritize jumps over rails, but learning to be halfway decent at rails wouldn't be so bad either.

Unfortunately all my friends are short on PTO or are in school so ski trips elsewhere to VT or out west will be limited. :/

I think Mad River beats out snowtrails in every aspect but the lodge. Steeper skiing when ripping runs. Park to me is meh either way. The new GM of Mad River is a super rad dude who rides twins and skis the park, look for it to get even better this year!

Is this guy going to be better than the old one? We don't want another fall of 2014 to happen with mad river and bmbw... Those cold temps for the next two weeks look interesting if somebody near by wants to pull the trigger....

That year I skied snow trails a week before thanksgiving. And BMBW didn’t open until after Christmas the same year if I remember correctly.

From talking to him it sounds like it. He is a younger guy, probably about 40. Was riding a flow board around when I saw him. Gotta keep them fingers crossed i guess.

It is always fun to go back in the bmbw predictions thread to see us all complaining about that. Peak resorts has been very aggressive up north in terms of opening up early, so hopefully boyd gets permission for it here. I know season pass sales are up 19% according to the latest peak resorts quarterly report.

Can someone explain this peak pass? Not the Ohio drifter peak pass but below that in the selections, just drifter peak pass.

I just discovered it and it looks pretty sweet for my purposes. If you buy off the Mad river or BMBW website, is it an add on to your already purchased season pass? Or can you just buy that selection individually?

Right now the drifter peak pass is cheaper than a basic ohio drifter season pass for my age group on the mad river and bmbw sites.

If I go on the peak pass main website however it only allows you to select northeast resorts, but also says in the faq that those passes are good in Midwest. Right now it looks most cost effective to just make mount snow my home mountain, use $20 promo code, and pick up in December before Ohio even gets going.

Tell me I'm wrong. What's the benefit to buying on an Ohio peak resort site? Rfid and straight to lift? Is that the only benefit?

I was confused by that too. My mom bought my pass as a birthday gift, and she accidentally got me a peak pass instead of peak ohio. If it doesn't work in Ohio, I am going to be very angry with somebody. I think the issue is the rest of the new england resorts have their pass discount deadline in december, so the ohio resorts can't end their sale early for that specific pass. I have no idea why they changed the ohio pass this early though.

OK good deal. I actually emailed mad river about the difference so when I hear back I'll let you know. I would think you should be good tho

Response: "Yes, if you buy a Peak pass it is valid at Mad River and 9 other resorts. They recently added Liberty Mountain, Whitetail Resort, and Roundtop Mountain Resort. The other resorts available are Boston Mills Brandywine, Alpine Valley, Hunter Mountain, Mt. Snow, Jack Frost, Big Boulder, Attitash Mountain, Wild Cat, and Crotched Mountain. There is no difference which site you order from. You would still be able to pick your pass up at Mad River. Hope that could help."

Guess who is making snow first again.... Snow trails.... You would think mad river and bmbw learned their lesson the last time we had these temps in november

Yep, but it might be wasted. Supposed to get warm again down here. Idk why Cleveland isn't making snow tho

Lake erie keeps it just warm enough to not make snow. We get the reverse effect in the spring though so it is cooler up north. It isn't going to get that warm, max of 42 in the next ten days in valley hi at mad river

Looks like mad river tested the system but didn't do anything in terms of productivity. Looks like seven springs will be my first day on snow this year.

So fucking dumb neither bmbw or mad river have started making snow. It's cold enough. Especially mad river; it's never gonna be consistently below freezing (aka consecutive weeks) all winter. They need to build their base while they can.

without fail mad river and bmbw are the last to blow every year. And I'm way too cheap to go ski 7 springs so I'm stuck waiting for good old josh boyd once again

Peak resorts failing us once again. I am not surprised the slightest bit.

Looks like Peak resorts decided to start their snowmaking tonight. Snow trails opens friday. I wouldn't be surprised if mad river opens for the weekend as well with the week of good temperatures ahead

The snow guns are off at both bmbw and mad river for whatever dumb ass reason. It's freezing out so no excuses for this

Maybe because it is too warm right now and they will just rain... If it isn't 28, they can't do anything. They will fire back up around 7 or 8 pm probably. Mad river will have some pretty decent sized whales come saturday morning based on the forecast. They will be able to get almost 100% capacity out each gun.

Mad river is shooting themselves in the foot today. It has been below 25 all day and the guns aren't on. The next 24 hours are the coldest we have seen so far this year, so they better do something. They brought out a snowcat today to push out the piles which makes zero sense since it will just cause the snow to melt more with the rain coming in.

They're so dumb. If they don't get their act together this will be the first and last time I buy their season pass

I think the crew just took a break today. They are back on with 100% max capacity right now and have the potential to the next 2 nights as well.

Look what bmbw just posted... If none of the peak resorts open this weekend, I will lose it.

Yeah I was just about to post that mad river has some pretty nice coverage and base built up. There's no way they aren't open by Saturday

Mad river and bmbw are refusing to open while snow trails is currently building up their top to bottom park... I didn't know stupidity could reach these levels.

Their reason is warm temps. I honestly don't understand how they don't realize that it's central Ohio and it never stays below freezing consistently regardless of the month. Build a base. Let people ski. Build more base. Continue.

I can't believe they are being this cheap. This may actually be worse than 2014 because they tried to wait out the warm before making snow but got unlucky. This is plan stupidity. They probably have enough snow for a four foot base, but they think a weekend of skiing in the 40s will melt it down...

This upsets me so much every year. I just don't understand. If they are waiting for perfect weather they might as well not open. Snow trails gets it, but it's snow trails.

I am heading up to snow trails tomorrow because I am sick of waiting. I am getting my pass to snow trails next year because it is the same distance from ohio state as mad river

I am trying to decide what to do. I am ready to shred, and am not trying to make the drive to perfect north. I'm probably going to head up to snow trails tomorrow too. What time were you going to head up? Maybe we can get some laps in?!

I will get there around 1 or 2 and stay until probably around 9-10. I am going with Rparr too.

Mad river is set to open 12/19 per their website. Hopefully they'll have some features cuz there's not anything to actually ski other than park there

I follow a park crew guy on instagram and he said “we will be building two small rail lines” It will probably just be 8 features or so off of the flight deck chair.

I just bought a pass to snow trails. I can't take the ignorance of bmbw. Today was the saddest park I have ever seen them assemble

Snowtrails parks have been the best in Ohio the past 3 years and this will probably continue!!! #Cooperatekills

Cooperate doesn’t kill, they kill themselves with lack of common sense thought. They try to save money and not make snow in november when conditions are ideal, then try to scramble at the end of december when they realize, oh crap, we don’t have any snow or good weather ahead. Then they try to make snow when it is like 30 out which costs way more in terms of snow output per dollar. Then they stay open an extra weekend where it is a ghost town to claim they have the best customer service in the business. Then the park crew designer... holy moly. They have to be smoking something when they are coming up with designs. It is absolutely awful. There will usually be one good build a year but it is usually at the end of the year, then it melts super quick.
