Macs Dont Get Viruses Right?

how do you think you get viruses on a pc? They dont just spontaneously appear on your computer...you have to be an idiot and click/downlaod something that clearly is not legit
 
Actually no. Tons of people make fake links that when you click it, it instantly installs a virus, then redirects you to youtube or something so it looks legit.

Also, they can "spontaneously" appear. If a hacker has something against you, they can easily inject it into your computer without you knowing.
 
ok, so it's not what OS you're running. For the most part, all you need to do to get a virus is be a moron. unless someone does it to you.
 
It's not that Macs don't get viruses, it's that noone cares enough to write viruses for them because their userbase is relatively small.
 
I knew you could get mac viruses for a while. A bunch off my friends on a project had to get pictures and then cite the source. So they would google the image click on it. go to the web page from where it was from and done, They had viruses for there macs. One of them had 100 after 6 hours. I also have heard similar stories of this happening
 
Macs do get viruses. But the chance of getting a virus is extremely minimal, but it's increasing day by day.
 
that's not necessarily true. for instance, if you click on a legitimate link, you can be directed to a crimeware website, and get the virus without clicking on anything there.
 
can someone tell me what drives a person to write a virus? not trying to threadjack here, but do they receive any benefit for fucking someones computer over other than the "satisfaction" of making someone else's day extremely worse? i could understand for like a password or something, but you still don't need to screw up a person's entire computer.
 
One of the most common "virus" is a keylogger. Keyloggers show up everything you have typed, passwords, logins, ect. It shows up even if it's saved on your computer. With that, you have access to credit cards, personal info, paypal, anything pretty much.

is it possible to "keylog" without completely destroying someones computer? couldn't you just run all that shit in the background?
 
That's what it is. It is always running in the background. If they person who made the keylogger is decent at programming, they most likely encrypted it, so that anti-virus will not pick it up.
 
Keyloggers are usually extremely hidden. It is just that most virus programs can pick up 99% of the viruses/keyloggers/etc. you get and remove them.
 
i clicked on some stupid link and something automatically downloaded the other day (i made a thread about it), but i erased the thing without clicking on it/opening it. that means i'm okay right?

well my little retarded superman friend, that piece of magical software thats so fucking amazing to you costs 29.00$. Yes twenty nine dollars, on apple.com. You can install this on your computer so when you turn it on, it sounds, looks, and feels like a MAC. WOW! crazy eh?

so what are you paying the extra 500+ dollars for? a shiny case. Literally, a shiny case. The benefit? NONE.

When ur mac gets dirty from dust, or you want to upgrade it, its an absolute BITCH. FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THAT THING. i helped my friend with it, and i never got more frustrated with a computer in my life. My dell takes roughly 30 minutes to take it completely apart, get to the ram, cpu heatsink, remove hdd, and take out the graph cards... ect.

I am comparing 2 new computers also. I can guarantee you i can build the same computer, if not faster, with the same shit in it, for less than 1,000 dollars, and install your ever treasured SNOW LEOPARD. It would have more input-output ports (like usb, firewire, ect) and a longer lasting battery. All these parts are available on newegg.com.

Better yet, you can buy a refurbished laptop (what i did, but i tweaked the shit out of it) for 500 bucks, put like 250$ worth of money into it, and it has windows 7, windows vista, and UBUNTU. I could install SNOW LEOPARD easily, for 30 dollars, and outpreform you mac any day.

my PC- 750$ is better than apples 2,000$ model.

please explain to me how you arent an idiot.

 
havent had a single virus in 7 years... weird how that works. never used an anti virus and always have had windows trash firewall off.

Ohh thats right my windows pc is for running cs3 and some of my programming programs and i use ubuntu or a similar kernal on my computers.

Macsare under spec'd for a reason. The unix based system doesnt require you to need what a windows pc does to work correctly.
 
cleaner foolproof system? you mean taking a FREE operating system and charging people 30 bux for it ? makes sense to me ontop of having to pay an extra 500 for the hardware. Sounds like a good deal
 
2 years ago, dell had an issue with their cooling systems and their heatsink configurations in their studio and xps models. this no longer exists. Dells hardware is exactly the same and less expensive.

You are an idiot of you need to take your computer to customer support unless you damaged the hardware beyond reasonable repair, in witch case, its your fault.

If you like your computer to have sub-par preformance, go at it. With the HTML standard going up, and high def video being intoduced, and more complex games, videos, websites, scripts comming out, the sub par hardware will be outdated quicker.
 
that virus isnt really a virus because it needs the user to click download. we are not that stupid.
macs are almost a fashion statement. if you pull out an iphone or blackberry, you will get some style points. if you pull out a clunky ass slide ot flip phone... not so much(including those blackberries... you know which ones i mean, they suck)
when someone is on their mac, it looks nice. its easy on the eyes and is not the focal point when someone has their laptop out. its liek a nice watch
a pc on the other hand brings up questions like... how much RAM, graphics cards, etc etc. some people dont want they, they want to be the centerpoint. not this laptop machine mega death thing. (dont get me wrong, some PCs look nice... but every one brings up the question... what PC is that?)
so when ppl see you on a mac, its liek. OH, mac. maybe hes a video editor, photographer, small business owner, etc etc. and the general conception is that the user is a cool person. (guys and girls)(girls just use macs like they wear their TNA pants its a no brainer any day)

So back to macs vs PCmacs get you closer to pussy then a PC does, they dont scare off the ladies, they dont pull the attention away from you and they bring up a nice, cool guy look upon yorself. PCs however = hacker/gamer
and in the virus department, we dont care how small the 1st virus is and if there is one... so far all out computers have not been extremely ill or gotten a virus of the sort, they are amazing machines that do whatever the fuck we want them to do, and they do it well. PCs - you have to pay a small fee for a virus scanning software and even then sometimes you dont catch the virus because they are better then the virus scanning software. PCs are a hassle and macs are clean by design.
in the general use deaprtment. MACS they have a soft, fast, sleek, easy to use operating system. never fails, runs like a charm all the time. they have all the internals we need for doing what we need to do. PCs judge our macs like judging a fish on its ability to climb a tree. they cant. but they are amazing at swimming and thats what they do. the MAC can swim better then the PC but cant climb a tree. anc climbing tree comes with some danger issues (like that virus you may get)
so im ranting about this mac vs PC i might as well tell you who i am. Im a photogerpher and student that uses a macbook pro 15 for the last 3 years of his life. he has never run into something that he wished he had a PC for (weather that be speed isues, grapics, style and operating system) everything is working fine here. i really dont mind the extra 500 bucks for this beauty of a laptop and an unmatched ease of mind. works like a charm and looks like a charm.
