great video and even better song. loves how he tells stories through music. I wasn't really sure why he wanted to take them off though when he was in the hall. So he wouldn't get jumped for them? but then he just puts more on.

It was a pretty cool video, but I'm kind of confused. Was the song actually about shoes or was there some hidden metaphor?

Sorry, I just woke up...

I think macklemore is trying to turn into a storyteller rather than a rapper...his flow is very much like spoken word/slam poetry in this. It's interesting. I don't like this song very much to be honest. But the video is awesome.

I always call his new style spoken word, but I really like it for the most part. It's seemed like that's the direction he's going in, but we'll have to see what the new cd is like.

videos like this are the reason I want to make music videos.

on a side note, look at the credits: the same person was director, director of photography, art director, editor, and colorist

The reason Macklemore has so many devoted followers is because his music speaks to a different genre of people, most time rap speaks to the druggies or the minorities but Macklemores speaks to everyone. Also the video is really sick, watched it way too many times already and another random question, does anyone else want the SuperSonics jacket that the kid is wearing, cause i think its dope.

I glanced at something the day he released the video that said that this song really is about shoes. But apparently it's about how these shoes helped him through his childhood. I guess they have some sort of deeper meaning to him specifically. I think the kid in the video is suppose to be Macklemore as a child.

-"We want what we can't have. Commodity makes us want it..."

-"Look at me, look at me, I'm a cool kid. I'm an individual, but I'm part of a movement. My movement told me be a consumer and I consumed it, they told me to just do it, I listened to what that swoosh said."

-"Look at what that swoosh did, see it consume my thoughts. Are you stupid? Don't crease 'em just leave 'em in that box. Strangled by these laces, laces I can barely talk. That's my air bubble and I'm lost, if it pops."

-"And then my friend Carlos' brother got murdered for his fours, woah.

He's displaying what consumerism is doing, how it's corrupting our society with brand names, advertisements, making everyone feel the need to have that next cool thing. This complete and utter obsession can even take lives and he wanted to raise awareness about what it's doing through this song.
