Macbook pro?

Something with subpar battery life, and an incredibly shitty screen?

The colors wash out as soon as you move your head the slightest amount, blue is gray when viewed straight on and brightness and contrast disappear when moving to the side. there doesn't seem to be a single position where the colors look good all the time. It's also only 1366 x 768

Going on 5 years with my Dell. I have yet to have any service calls and my battery life lasts about 3 hours on a charge. I really don't find any real benefits to a Mac unless you're into the arts (video/photo editing). If thats the case then go for it.

If you are going to major in business I would definitely recommend AGAINST a Mac. But there's no point in getting into this if you're not. PM me if you do and I can explain more.

Thats astonishing. I've had many friends with windows laptops that ive seen them freak out on and after 2-3 years they're getting a new computer. You must be very nice to your computer and/or just aren't stupid.

I'm gonna call you out on your battery because

1. battery's didnt even last longer than 2-3 hrs 5 years ago, unless you have some epic extended batt.

2. it doesnt matter what brand the computer is, a battery depletes over the years no matter what. Im guess youve bought new batteries if you're still getting 3hrs?

I totally understand that business still uses windows, all the programs you need ie excel work on mac but theyre all fucked up, i went through that shit for a couple years of school, it was annoying and I worked around it.

I still prefer osx. Right now, im using windows 7 on my editing desktop and i've gotten pretty used to it. But, there are some really simple features windows 7 lacks that I miss with osx but its nothing you cant work around and deal with.

It is an extended battery (still on the OG batter). For about the first year it lasted about 5 hours. This was my graduation gift and my mom's real techy so she souped it up pretty nice for me ~$2,200. I'm pretty careful about it too. I don't just let it sit with the plug in,as that kills battery life. I'll go from a full charge all the way down to 0 batter every couple weeks. I'm definitely no computer tech but I'm definitely aware responsible for this computer being as nice as it is. I also download a ton of movies, but I'm definitely careful about what I download.

This is why I'm a firm believe in building your own laptops (i.e. not just going to best buy and buying one off the counter). I know this computer cost quite a bit, but to think that I've had it for this long, and don't really see a reason why I can't continue using it for 2-3 more years, really makes me like Windows-based computers more than osx. Down the line, I might end up buying a new extended batter, but that would just be one part that would cost a couple hundred dollars, unlike an Apple product where you have to get the whole goddamn computer replaced if something goes wrong.

I definitely think Mac's are awesome computers for the right person, don't get me wrong. But for the same amount of money you can build your own PC (not physically, but online) that lasts longer and performs better for equal or lesser price.

Yep. I'm on it instead of my phone, iPad, old windows laptop, desktop, brothers computer, or dads computer. So umm yeah just because I'm on newschoolers doesn't mean I'm on it dumbfuck.

I got back from a couple years out of the country and upgraded to the MBP retina, and I can honestly say its the best laptop I have ever had the pleasure of working on. I do a lot of work in AE, FCP, and Ableton, and this thing is badass even with only 8gb of ram - can't wait till I add 8 more. But yeah, just everything about the computer completely met my expectations, so I would suggest it to anyone thinking about buying a laptop if it fits your price range.

The ram is soldered directly on the motherboard.

sorry to dash your hopes, but you cant install more RAM on a retina MBP unless you go though apple (that might not even be possible) since they have to solder the ram to the motherboard.

My Mac book from 2005 that's traveled all over the world still works fine. The battery just sucks.

this, I'm on year 5 with mine. Only thing that sucks in the battery life after a fews years. Otherwise it runs smooth still. Can't really game with it but for school work and casual use it's worth it.

not saying what today is standard or what not, i am just pretty sure that not a lot of "normal" people right now are underequipped with 8 or even 4 GB of ram.

I'm running now at 6 GBS in my laptop granted mines like 1-2 years old now, but I have no problems, and I have ran AutoCAD and Solidworks just find, gamed lightly(might have to take down graphics a bit but really who gives a fuck), and done my basic interwebs. I get it for people that game heavily or Run a lot of heavy programs at the same time, but blanket stating that the norm for everyone is 8 gigs is outrageous.

The blanket statement was saying that 8gb of ram is coming standard in most new computers now because its so damn cheap. I have 16gb and I use all of it and WANT 32gb, but I also do heavy video editing so im not "normal".

but the average consumer will probably browse the internet, check email maybe through a client, use office programs which aren't too intensive, and then usually run itunes to play their medium quality audio.

Just because its now cheap doesn't mean you should look down on someone for having "less then 8 Gigs on RAM". computer specs are all by workload and what you do. Judging by the video stuff you put out I'm surprised your don't already have 32gbs of RAM. Compared to some average senior citizen consumer that still thinks AOL is the relevant do all client for all her computer aided needs

I wasn't trying to be condescending, I just thought it was stupid he was being a douche saying "you know how I know you're 15?" when 8gb of ram is the standard now. Whatever, im over it.

i have an alienware M11x r3

best laptop ive ver owned, i can play skyrim on high on an 11 inch laptop, and i get mad battery life
