Macbook pro freezing

ive had my macbook pro for about a week and a half. within that time, it has done this weird thing. Today I was on youtube watching a vid and i turned up the volume on my keyboard but it stopped about halfway when i was turning it up. After this happend I cant click on any icons on my desktop or the bottom apps. I can click on the apple icon up in the left corner. I try to force quit whatever im in, but nothing happens. I try to shut the computer down but nothing happens. When I click on anything, nothing happens. however i CAN operate the program currently running such as safari. The only thing im left to do is to hold to power button down until the system shuts off. I feel terrible doing this as it may be bad for the hard drive.

The other time I was booting up photoshop and it did the same thing.

has anybody else had this freezing problem?

is there a way to fix it/ be able to restart the computer without forcing it to shut down?

its happend like 3 times already and i want to know whats wrong.

yea i already have final cut and photoshop installed. so youd reccomend a reinstall of OSX?

will repairing my disk permissions with disk utility help at all?

thats why CS2 is built for power pc and your on intel, it sucks Rosetta doesnt do shit, try to find a copy of CS3

I repaired my disk permissions. I think im gonna wait it out and see if it happens again. Like i said, it doesnt happen often at all. I hate having to force the system to shut off. Thats why im concerned.

as nomensteven said, i really do hope its just a software problem. I have no clue how or why it would be a hardware problem. its such a minimal thing.

so yeah. i repaired my disk permissions and im gonna wait it out. if it happens again, ill re-install OSX.

thanks for the help guys!
