I will be buying a MacBook Pro for college. Most importantly, I want to be able to edit videos efficiently with Final Cut and After Effects. As I get better and better throughout the next few years I don't want to struggle because of lack of performance in a computer.

Due to my lack of knowledge about computers, & what directly relates to making videos I am unsure of what I need. Would it be more beneficial to go with the 13-inch, 2.8GHz dual core i7 turbo boost up to 3.3GHz. Or the 2.6GHz quad core i7, with turbo boost up to 3.8GHz? Do you need the quad core?

Also, I'm assuming 16GB of memory compared to the 8GB would be essential.

How about Flash Storage?

I would get the lower end, cheaper processor. The .2ghz boost is a scam, you won't notice any difference.

But, unlike processor performance, you may benefit from 16gb of ram, but 8gb would be fine.

As for SSDs, I find them standard in my life now, theyre getting so much cheaper and make your computer run faster over, you wont export anything faster but your programs will open much quicker and be much more responsive.

If you want to do video editing, a graphics card is a very nice addition. The 13" will not come with a dedicated graphics card, only the 15". I'd say save money on ram and processor and buy a 15" that will have a nvidia graphics card.

Looking at apples site, you're looking at the top two 13" right?

I cant believe they only sell 1 MBP with a graphics card now and its $600 more because you can only get it with a 512gb ssd and with 16gb of ram... fucking apple.

I would consider checking out refurbished mbps as well, the older versions have more options it seems

you can get a 15" retina with 2.3ghz i7, 8gb of ram, 265gb ssd and a gtx 650m graphic card, could be better than a top end 13" for what you want to do.

-those with integrated graphics cards(macbooks)

-those with dedicated graphics cards (macbook pros)

the dedicated card is better because it's entire module of the computer dedicated to processing graphics.... it's much more powerful, but more expensive.

if you're going to be using final cut pro you want a dedicated card/macbook pro
