Mac to use Intel chips in 2006

intel and Apple reps say its just "rumors and stipulations"

the rumor of apple getting an intel proc has been around for over 5 years.

ill beleive it when I see an official anouncement. this would be very stupid on Apples part if its true though. because as soon as people hack final cut pro, shake and all the apple software to run on a linux distro its over for apple.

I remember when I was younger I would see intel as a guy in a suit just wanting to take my money and AMD as the long haired cool guy there to fight the tyranny of intel.

back then AMD had just broken the 1GHZ Mark with their Athlon (not XP) for less than $500, and intel was on the P3 at 800 MHZ selling for 800 dollars

my curent PC was:

Intel Celiron (P2 with less cache)

32 mb ram

6 gig hd

integrated video card stealing 8 mb from my 32 mb of ram

sound blaster ("Near CD Quality audio" was printed on the box)

4X CD-Burner (this was so high tech)

and Windows.

just thought I would bring you guys on a trip with me

ohh and apple had just adopted the letter "i" as their new marketing plan and had really colorful see through computers.

Voodoo 4 or 5 was the card that made me drool with it I could play Tomb Raider 2 with no slow down.

The Dream Machine sported a whopping 128 mb of Ram which also made me drool.

my computer desk ran wild with hundreds of floppy disks and a box of blanks was next to it

my computer was loaded with games: Duke Nukem 3D(it wasnt), Full Throttle, Day of The Tentacle, Tomb raider 2.

wow those days were so cool. to think how far we have advanced and with PPUs less than a year from release I bet that in a couple of years we will be lauging at our current configs.

Man, when they started to have games on CD-ROM's they advertised that like crazy. Like heres a Warren Miller sampler disc I have: "Behind the Scenes with Warren Miller is a taste of the vast capabilities of CD-R technology." They also had a CD-Recording alliance! WOW amazing

 
i actually looked into this and its pretty fucked... its being confirmed by the Wall Street Journal and Cnet, but apple has waaaay too much in their PowerPC chips to switch to x86. The only logical solution is this:

-IBM is overloaded with chip orders with the xbox 360, ps3, and nintendo revolution, so they agree to

-liscence PowerPC to intel, who sees that microsoft is leaving them for the first time ever and need to get off their asses about powerPC.

that would be good for apple, intel, and IBM (who gets to collect royalties)

 
i've heard its about clock speed, pentium 4 can't get faster. so they are goin to a next level pentium M which operates at a much slower speed but is very reliable , which they will be speeding up considerably & they will be able to

build the next generations on that. and when that max's out there are talking about cell technology with atoms and wierd stuff like that.

then we will be at the highest level possible

PPUs are Physics processing Units. curently physics simulations such as bodies being thrown aqround or bricks falling down are handled by your CPU and the top CPU can handle about 40 at once. The first PPU to be released by Ageia will be able to handle 30,000 to 40,000. this means totally new types of gameplay elements. imagine bricks instead of being textures are actual bricks where you can shoot an opening through a wall and see to the other side. or pile rocks onto dynamite and when monsters come around. boom. rocks flying everywhere killing all of the badies. or chunks of armour falling off as you get shot.

possibilities are limitless.
