Mac or PC?

depends what your using it for.

If your planning on using your computer at all, not getting viruses and having a fast workinf system, get a mac.

If your broke and stupid, buy a pc

/thread

hahahahaha agreed.

also throw this in there:

if you want to play computer games and are too broke to have system.. buy a pc (or use bootcamp! HA)

i know PC's like the back of my hand, and im really used to the OS and i dont like change.

BUT, for college i will get a MAC and run a program that lets you basically intermingle PC and MAC programs, so i can go on ichat with friends, but do PC stuff as well.

Just wondering if a Mac user could tell me why the justify paying 2 grand for a computer with similar hardware to a PC worth 700-800.

Please dont tell me how cool ichat and imovie are either.

That's because you're an elitist prick, like 90% of Mac users. You want to know one thing PC users can do that Mac users can't? Shut the fuck up about how much better they are because of what computer they own.

Sorry I don't have a grand plus to blow on a laptop, but my $400 PC does everything I need it to do and is as fast as my roommate's Mac at pretty much everything except video editing. How? because I'm not fucking retarded. PCs only get viruses and are slow and shitty if you're a fuckwit. I don't even have virus protection, I'm on my computer all the time, and it's never been a problem. Ever. The belief that PCs get owned by the evils of the interweb is a myth confined to people who click YES on every single penis enlargement ad that pops up on their screen like it's a video game. I don't have any problems with Mac, what I do have a problem with is Mac users thinking they're so much cooler than everyone else because other people don't have piles of money lying around. Your Mac really isn't that much better than my PC, and I spent 1/3 of the money or less on mine. Who's cooler now?

God I hate these threads. I know I seemed a bit hypocritical there but Mac elitism annoys the shit out of me, almost every Mac user I've met is a pretentious douche about it.

PC, Im not like everyone else who gets a mac. Dont really see any point in it. Ive had a PC my entire life and still love it.

Disgusting how much computer preference works people up and divides them. I own a Mac because I am lazy and want a simple easy to use experience and I like to edit. My next computer will definitely be a PC so I can run AutoCad at home though.

Can someone tell me why I shouldn't like my PC?

Please tell me, I have an army of comments waiting to fuck you over.

MAC for the win. im never going to buy anything else. if someone can give me a real reason to buy a pc then il buy one. The only times I use a pc is at school in my buisness class(like I am right now)

Actuall I use both. The family computer (PC) crashed and my parents got a mac but then I ended up getting the PC fixed so now we have both. I'm not too picky, I'll use both.

wow. you guys are really getting into it.

what i really wanna know is how many people choose mac to jump on the anti microsoft bandwagon without understanding why people don't like microsoft.

currently i use windows xp pro. when i get my new harddrive i'll be dual booting xpp and ubuntu linux...

personally i can't see where one is better than the other all that much...mainly they're just different. and if you're honestly worried about viruses, linux and unix are pretty darn safe too

If tom Wallish used a PC, all you mac users would switch in an instant. because that's what 90% of mac users are. trend whores. most of you never even considered a mac until the 4th generation ipods came out, and then everybody saw that mac was the new cool thing. for the average user, a mac offers absolutely no benefit over a pc running xp with equal specs. running vista, you need a much more powerful computer, but, since mac charges twice as much as most pc companies, that doesnt make a difference. as far as editing goes, just as many people edit video, pictures, and music on PCs, if not more. I definitely know that there is more music software for PCs then for macs.

As far as customer service goes, Apple used to be king. but now that a bunch of middle aged women and pre-teen girls who want to learn how to put pictures on their computer or figure out how to change a ringtone on their iphone clog up the genius bar for days on end, theres little chance of getting help when you need it.

back when I had my G5, i loved apple, but now its just like dell or hp, except they cost way too much. most people could get by with an acer aspire one. 350 bucks and it does everything most people need, and its small enough to fit anywhere. I use one for class and work, and have my tower for music editing; never looking back and getting a mac again, not worth it, and I don't need the hipster factor. Plus if you ever get a job anywhere besides a graphic design firm, you are gonna be using PCs, so might as well learn to use the system everyone uses.

The exception would be if I somehow inherited so much money that I didn't know what to do with it. because then a mac pro fully speced would be baller as fuck to run pro tools HD with, but, thats at least 9 grand, and who has that to spend on a computer?

Dont hate Mac, just dislike all the people that suck Mac's dick just because.

Another thing now because Mac is out there every company that makes things for computers has to make a different one to work for Mac because the operating system can run it. Like many games and many programs and stuff.

as a mac user i can look at as much porn as i like without the risk of getting e-harpies, fuck you PC you dirty scank

mac for everything, computer in the basement for jiberish, its the only time i use the pc lol.

hey dude, calm down.

I said macs are great because they really are. They're is minimal virusesw and the virus protection in the OS is great. Theyre a great system to work with and have little to no negatives BUT I to have a PC. Why? because im pretty much broke as hell. If i had the money to buy a mac i would but i dont. so calm dow dude. Im one of those poor kids who cant afford a nice computer.

seconded. anybody out there who thinks their mac can't get a virus, give me your email address and i'll prove you wrong.

Wrong sir.

I've been using Mac's since college because I'm in graphic design.

I really could care less what pros use, or anyone else for that matter. I find it funny that PC users get all bent out of shape about it.

I use macs cause they work for me, and it's an industry standard, or at least it was when I was in school.

i mentioned that. if you read everything, the only industry in which macs prevail is graphic design. anything else and its PCs. and I don't get bent out of shape over anything, i just think its funny how so many people ride mac dick for no reason at all except that they are the "in" thing.

Agree 100%. And Macs can't play Jibbin'. Why even own a computer?

I love how Apple has everyone convinced that PCs are so much more virus and spyware susceptible, and I love how people continue to think Vista requires a supercomputer to run. Virus protection is a sham, for both Macs and PCs... so goddamn unnecessary unless you have the computer literacy of a chimp with Downs Syndrome. Viruses don't spontaneously download to your computer, you have to say yes to installing them. How dumb do you have to be...? And Vista is like every other Windows OS.. bloated with a ton of shit that makes it run slow. However, taking ten minutes of your time to cut out all the shit and stramline it will make it as fast and compact as anything Apple has put out. I'm not saying PCs are better, I'm just saying that you don't have to drop $1200 on a Mac to have a fast, reliable computer.

If you actually have a brain and have a decent knowledge of computers then you will be fine on either system and its really down to which you prefer to use. Personally I prefer to use a Mac ( I have both ) I prefer the GUI therefore I enjoy using it more therefore its less hassle a lot of the time.

For 95% of people it really does not matter which system they use because they don't really have enough need or knowledge to take advantage of one system or the other. The other 5% will pick based on their needs or just their preference, there like skis, they all get you down the mountain its just how you want to get down.

Personally if your having to ask this question or if your one of the stupid fanboys or either side then do this:

Buy a Mac if you have the money: there is less chance of you breaking it due to your lack of knowledge not meaning to sound harsh but a lot of people who think there "tech savvy" just do stupid shit all day long and should still just buy a mac because there super easy.

Otherwise buy a PC: still do a lot of things and have lots of good points too, build it yourself save and save a lot of money, or buy a Vaio if your gonna buy a laptop and want bang for buck or get something like a Asus if you want a good machine for the price.

Things to avoid:

Mac: Do not buy the upgrades from apple, they are enormously overpriced, do some research, alot of the parts in them can be upgraded by youself in about 5mins. Things like upgrading the ram and the hdd on a Macbook take 2mins of googling for a youtube tutorial, gooing the correct parts and then 5mins with some screwdrivers. Find the most basic model you can live with then do things like this to save you extra cash.

PCs: If you buying a desktop bite the bullet and build it yourself. Youll learn some skills and it really isnt that hard. You will end up with a much higher quality machine than the packages you get from PC companies. Just use google and research lots beforehand, alot of PC manufactures while they give you specced parts they are usally pretty crap quality. When you buy a dell for instance a lot of the machines dont have good enough PSUs, and the motherboards, ram and heatsinks tend to be shit. You could get quality parts made from quality manufactures for the same price as your dell machine and actually make it faster with a little bit of tinkering and overclock your processor a small bit because your machine will be able to handle it, again google this before going crazy. Dell lock the controlls for this stuff on their machines ( probably including XPS i dont know ) because the parts simply wouldnt handle it over time.

Meh hope that helps probably a bit of rant and the population of this forum probably wont care and just buy whatever some idiot has told them anyway but it will save you money/have a better time on the computer.
