Mac help

So recently my MBP's system got fucked up. I hooked it up to a macbook using firewire and can open my HD fine. Is there anyway to back this up by using the regular macbook? I have an external HD and i can connect the MBP to the macbook to the external HD (its a lacie D2 Quadra btw). Is there anyway to get my files backed up?

couldnt you just drag and drop your files at least? you may lose your settings, but at least your data wont be gone. or you could try using time machine or superduper. idk
