Haha did you think I was being uncivil? And trust me, I'm certainly no film fanboy..
I shoot both film and digital - and probably more often digital these days as I've probably been doing more video than photo work. I don't shoot film for movies. That's silly. I love film for it's character, and the more hands-on approach to it. Personally I use a digital process of scanning my negatives and prints, which opens up the ability to run pshop, lightroom, etc - which are expensive in their own right, but if I was to go burning and dodging it and hooking up my beseler and doing it the old way? Shit, it worked for over a century for everyone else...
Chemicals aren't detrimental to the environment... just don't dump fixer down the sink. That's the only thing that has heavy metals in it. Treat it like motor oil. Big whoop. Developer isn't really that bad, as it's super low concentration a lot of the time. Regardless, they're no worse than most household cleaners or your own poo. All that stuff goes to a WTP anyways. They're also not really that expensive. an alkaline fixer like TF5 costs less than 10$. Most developers cost no more than 10-15. It all usually lasts forever too if you're not doing it constantly - in which case you buy in bulk and it's even cheaper in the long-run.
I can go from pulling a few rolls out in the dark to having them developed in full within 10 minutes. That's really not too much time for high quality shots - especially if I'm shooting medium format, holy christ.
Anyways, I like both, and use both. It's all fun.
