M&A stoke

They are. Lens is super fast and sharp. 6 element design. Better than a lot of the 4 element tessar designs out there. Plus, I absolutely love 40mm lenses. Far more versatile than a 50, but not quite as wide as the 35. Perfect standard in my opinion.

It's shutter priority AE, with no manual override like the 7sii, but that's honestly fine for me. I use these for street photography for the most part - sometimes as a really light film camera on trip. I almost never went full manual on my Minolta.

yeah, and if it breaks, I can buy 40 more for the price of a basic Leica M3 with a 50 f2 cron... and hope it doesn't get stolen because it says 'Leica' on it.

Back on that film grind

I don't really like the logo at all. I understand it's not finalized, I just think it looks less-than-professional. I think it has to do with the really rounded edges of the camera, but I can't quite place what I dislike about it the most.

Give me two weeks to survive my hazing and I will make you something so hipster that hipsters will hipsterly cry hipster tears of hipster joy...

just ordered a 100cm k2 slider and Konova emailed me saying there wasnt any in stock so they are giving me a 120cm for no additional cost. wahoo!

So get this, I love the designs of film photography cameras over digital photography systems... but I fucking HATE film camera designs. They're just goofy looking

The old 120/220 film hassleblad models ALL look sexy, but the digital counterparts... not so much!

Basically any 35mm looks like it's built somewhat solidly, and they run for years and years without a hitch! The 5d on the other hand looks like a big black brick, and is prone to hardware issues.

Film and digital camera aesthetics aside, the tonal range and grain that traditional film produces easily rivals digital capabilities.

This thread is sick btw.

I can't wait till a company comes out with something retro with a digital sensor...

Imagine a Nikon D-F3. An F3 for all intensive purposes (perhaps a few extra things like faster shutter speeds, and normal top-mount hot shoe), but without a winder, and with a full frame, or fuck it.. even APS-C sensor... It would be a god damn home run!

Or, imagine a digital sensor in something as plain jane as a K1000. Just a straight up fully manual digital camera.

or god.. imagine a digital TLR or something crazy like that.

You can't re-make the classics, but shit, why the fuck not try? Look at how popular the Fuji cameras are these days... if the other companies figure out how to jump on board then damn.

This is hands down an incredibly debatable statement.

I'd put a Minolta SRT of whatever number against a K1000 any day...

Same with a Nikon FM

Same with any real Olympus OM

Something tells me you like film cameras ;P

But aside from my film lovin', I prefer digital film/photography for its ridiculously efficient workflow (compared to 35mm), as well as it's applications... I mean, C'MON, photoshop dude! FCP! PremeirePro! Avid! etc...

I think it's a lot more enjoyable than rummaging around in (complete) or relative darkness, dipping expensive paper into expensive, and even more environmentally detrimental chemicals.

I don't like film "Fanboys" that hate on digital users for no reason, so please keep the conversation civil and full of "Stoke" :)

Haha did you think I was being uncivil? And trust me, I'm certainly no film fanboy..

I shoot both film and digital - and probably more often digital these days as I've probably been doing more video than photo work. I don't shoot film for movies. That's silly. I love film for it's character, and the more hands-on approach to it. Personally I use a digital process of scanning my negatives and prints, which opens up the ability to run pshop, lightroom, etc - which are expensive in their own right, but if I was to go burning and dodging it and hooking up my beseler and doing it the old way? Shit, it worked for over a century for everyone else...

Chemicals aren't detrimental to the environment... just don't dump fixer down the sink. That's the only thing that has heavy metals in it. Treat it like motor oil. Big whoop. Developer isn't really that bad, as it's super low concentration a lot of the time. Regardless, they're no worse than most household cleaners or your own poo. All that stuff goes to a WTP anyways. They're also not really that expensive. an alkaline fixer like TF5 costs less than 10$. Most developers cost no more than 10-15. It all usually lasts forever too if you're not doing it constantly - in which case you buy in bulk and it's even cheaper in the long-run.

I can go from pulling a few rolls out in the dark to having them developed in full within 10 minutes. That's really not too much time for high quality shots - especially if I'm shooting medium format, holy christ.

Anyways, I like both, and use both. It's all fun.

Ironically, this thing may have just stopped working correctly.

Just pulled out my first roll shot through it. on frame 17, everything starts getting super under exposed, as in, a few frames ended up straight up black.

Meter seems to be okay, shutter speeds are accurate but... oh... damnit... yeah, the fucking aperture diaphram won't open up past F16. Balls.

Saw a while back, some people were begging for this in an m42 mount, I think it would be awesome, something like full metal with a great sensor. I also really like waist level finders, so semi related (aka I wish I could afford an untethered digital back solution).

A K1000 with an M42 mount would basically just be a Spotmatic F, or the like. They're virtually the same thing for all intensive purposes.

but regardless.. being able to just stick a digital sensor in the back of the camera where the film was? holy jesus I would freak.

I don't even care if there's not a screen. Nobody who'd be buying it would chimp anyways. just stick it in there, press a green button, and fire away. Please somebody figure out how to make something like this and kickstarter the fuck out of it. so much dough in your direction..

I know that, I was just saying that was the one they were discussing. I think there was a april fools prank a while ago about it, closest I have seen would be something like the one leica made, the digital module R I believe (for the R8/R9).

Found the link to the prank:

http://re35.net

I think this would be awesome if it were real, because it would allow everyone to use the system they enjoy most

the logo looks really art deco-ish, which doesn't really line up with what you're trying to represent, in my opinion. also, the E doesn't really line up with the H and that's a little bothersome.

I do like how it's super simple, but overall, I feel like it could use some pop to make it a little more exciting. Also, I'd try and make it relate more to the specific niche you're into...basically personalize it a bit and give it some more character.

It's a good start, though...just needs some pop!

I wish I could help out seriously, because that is a GOOD fucking idea mr. DingoSean

We just need someone to bring it to life...

Paging Dr. Walter.

Holy shit! just got my konova slider and I knew they had upgraded me to a 120cm k2 from 100cm but they also made it a k3! 250 bucks for a k3 120cm. The stoke is high right now. Now im off to buy another tripod head.

This thread has turned into a huge film camera chat fest, its fucking stupid, go make another thread about and brag about your film cameras.

Not only was that edit far past 95% of NS's filmmaking ability, you did it with a fucking broken neck. you have a huge amount of talent my friend

That was sick man, few comments.

You had some trouble with framing once and awhile (crop) im not sure if you adjusted in post at all, but those shots where he might not go out of frame 16:9, you could move your image around and "cheat" the crop.

Also, there were a couple shots where you tried to follow a very small upwards/downwards movement where you probably shouldve kept the shot steady and just let him move in the frame. Main example of this is at :46.

Otherwise, looked sick man

Thanks, Evan.

I do the cheater keyframe positioning a lot (you can kind of see it when he airs at :42), sometimes I just haven't framed it well enough in camera.

I'm not sure what you mean about the second part though, I don't think I moved the camera at :46 besides using the slider, definitely not upwards/downwards.

@Tanner-D - The kid I filmed with, Max, posted it up there, but I don't think it's gained much traction.

And thanks, Forcillo! It's not really a huge inhibition though, so I can't take too much credit for having a broken neck and still be filming.

I rewatched it to make sure it was the right time, at 46-47 the frame moves up with him as he airs.

I mean, its a big move up and down, is that where you did the cheater move? its just very abrupt.

Yeah, probably, maybe we're getting timecode issues, but the shot right before the one I thought you were referencing (only 2 seconds behind) I did the cheater bump, so that's probably what you're seeing.

Not sure if you meant :42 or what because in all realness the entire edit looked fairly legit minus a few things that have already been pointed out.
