M&A stoke

So last October, most of my computer equipment along with two of my external HDDs (which included all of my 2012 projects and backups) were stolen. I was about 60-70% finished editing a piece that was my favorite to-date and was never able to finish or upload it due to the theft. It took a while to mentally/emotionally get over this, but I came to terms and moved forward. I've always had this kind of fantasy that I would somehow find the drives with the data still on them and be able to finish and share that video with everyone. Realistically, there was no way this would actually happen, but the thought stayed in the back of my mind...

...flash forward to a few weeks ago... I randomly received a message on Facebook from someone I don't know asking if I was still offering a reward for the stolen equipment (originally posted a reward for any information leading to the recovery of my gear). After a night of back-and-forth communication with this person (who I've concluded is friends with the person who stole my equipment), he informed me that he could buy the drives from his friend and sell them to me. While this goes against EVERYTHING that I stand for on principal, recovering the data on those drives was more important. So I trekked up to meet this person the next morning with my laptop to check the files and surely enough, everything was on the drives as I had left it! Opening up the projects was a relief I can't even describe.. I paid him for my drives (ugh) and went home to back everything up immediately.

I finally had the chance to finish that unreleased project and even remembered most of the cuts I was about to make! I am VERY stoked about this entire situation, and with how the video came together.

I know this has nothing to do with skiing, but if you are into electronic music or just want to see a somewhat intensely edited video, I would love to hear some thoughts!

* I recommend watching this in a controlled environment with a solid sound system (and turn it up) *

^Legally you could have contacted police and had them come with you. US law states that if someone purchases stolen goods, and the original owner finds them, they have the right to take back what is theirs after prooving it, with no need for payment. buuut it was nice of the kid to help you out. video looked good too!

Thanks for the concern everyone! I shared the same thoughts, but realistically it would have been more of a bear to deal with than I have time for. I have moved out of the state and wouldn't gain much from pursuing anything further. Life will certainly catch up with them and they will ultimately pay for this kind of action in one way or another.

Just scored some more lenses today.

Nice one! link to your profile?

& did you do different exposures for the foreground? or was it just naturally that bright? Also how many photos was that?

Link is in my sig.

No, it was a full moon, so the ground was exceedingly bright, so all of the photos were taken with the same exposure, did some brightening of the foreground in post with graduated filters and hue, but it's not much brighter than from RAW.

This was how I stitched the photos. The lines are very inaccurate because of vertical distortion with any panorama, it gives you the idea though. 3x3 so 9 pics total.

Bebas is my favorite font ever, I haven't used anything else on my videos since like December.

You should have cropped those 10 or so pixel tall bars on the top and bottom.

Too little variation: you need to buy and read the 3,5kg behemoth of a book that is: Typography.

Downside is to that when you are done you will hate 95% of all fonts on anything you will ever encounter.

Hearing that "camcorders are redundant because smartphones have filters" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard from the gadget show.

I stopped caring.

That's why I now shoot video on a myriad of professional and non pro sony tape camera's

That dynamic range, that nightshot, those colours, that hipster.

Went to the airport to take pictures. I was standing on top of the truck to try to get the fence out of the shot and still get some planes in. I stumbled and almost fell and felt like a super professional "photographer".

Now i just have to spend a bunch of money to get my films developed

stoked on my latest wedding trailer i just posted if you wanna check it out https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/752531/

also stoked to be shooting two more weddings in the next couple months!

Did you edit the hoodcrew movie?? It was so crazy man. There's no way I could have arranged that many bangers.

Also, having just bought a new computer in over 4 years, I finally have all of my skiing footage in one folder... I think I'm going to put together a Reel. Hopefully something with a lot of skiing in it!

Antistoke(fuck you eheath(not being sincere)):

After buying a new laptop ~6 months ago(ish) I gave it to my granny, as she was pretty ill(has since passed a month/two ago) which was cool because we could skype and stuff, and she liked it.

Only got it back yesterday. Due to mixups etc, I ended up with a ~3A cable instead of the ~6.3A I found out it needed. Didn't realise I had the wrong one, and I ended up frying the cable, luckily I was there and I saw it before it caught fire, just some minor melting.

And the stoke:

Was pretty sure my grandad would still have it, as I gave him a different laptop to use. Since I didn't have it I presumed there was a mix-up with the cables. Didn't wanna remind him of his wife passing(he's been really sad since) so I figured it was better if I just bought a new cable.

After spending a couple hours(mostly just checking ns, facebook etc, the usual procrastination) getting one that was definitely right, I bought it, I'm logged into paypal, just about to click pay, when I realise, I better make sure I actually have an AC>3 pin adapter. I went to check through some cables etc, and I found the fucking 6.32A cable, saved $35(I know it's not a huge deal, but I'm pumped, and on not having to wait until next week for it to be delivered too).

Also feel like I've written way too much just for a measly cable & 40$.

Just picked up one of these on Ebay...

Same thing as my old busted Minolta 7sii except, it doesn't have the manual override... and it's black, which is sexy as fuck (and the 7Sii version in black would cost upwards 2-300$ in some cases)

Absolutely love these old cosina-made TV rangefinders... such a sharp lens, and so small and lightweight.

Plus, I don't feel like I'm having to baby around a Leica or something.
