Hi M&A,

Im looking into purchasing a macro for my GH3, I have no clue where to start and I was wondering if any of you could help me out. I currently have a Metabones speedbooster Nikon>m43.

Thanks guys.

Zac

If you were on canon glass I would recommend the 100L 2.8. I've used that and love it but I'm in the same boat as you don't know anything about macros haha. Sorry and goodluck!

Why not go native m43? The Olympus 60mm f/2.8 is supposed to be pretty fucking fantastic. It is smaller than most of the 35mm lenses, and has autofocus(yeah, I know that AF aint relevant for macro, but it makes the lens more versatile)

I don't know about zac, but most of us guys that shoot mft like to stick with nikon for the moment due to superior optics and more availability. Once again I'm out of my element with macro

Yeah I only buy F mount glass because of the speed booster and because it is so versatile and future proof. I could rent a red epic and I already have a good set of glass to use on it.

How much are you looking to spend and what focal length?

Personally, I don't need a macro lens enough to justify spending $800+ to have one in my bag. I just have a set of extension tubes that I have gotten good results with. A little bit of a pain to work with compared to a real macro lens, but at a tiny fraction of the cost with little compromise on IQ.

Im not wanting to spend much more than $1000, And like a few of you said, id like to stick to F mount to use the speedbooster.

I loved my Nikkor 55mm f2.8 micro when I had it... They go for around 100$ or so. Throw on the extension ring and you can get 1:1. I always used it in available light though. Never really used it with flash or anything.

That said, I'd absolutely love a 105 f2.8 micro. cost about 250-300 in great condition, and so friggin sharp, and it won't block your light.
