Lying about being sponsored

I met a guy today who was wearing a Full Tilt t shirt. After talking a little bit he told me he used to ride for Line and Full Tilt and that he always got his stuff for free.

I thought this was pretty cool. Then I asked him what skis he rode and he struggled to come up with a name. Finally he managed to say chronics. I then started talking about other Line skis. I was talking mostly about Lizzies and he had no idea what I was talking about. Couldnt name the model of boots he used either except that his Full Tilts fit way better than his old SPKs because they are heat moldable.

This guy is at least 22. It just seems like an odd thing to lie about, especially when youre older.

How many of you have met someone who does this?

I remember trying to pass myself off as Tanner Hall in a regional gala in 2004. The worst was people actually thought I was THall. Nobody can be Tanner Hall, not even Tanner Hall.

It happens a lot on the chairs people think I ride for someone. I don't even mention anything except for having fun and killing it out there. And no, I don't ride for anyone.I ride with people.
 
Kid in my school says his brothers sponsored by jiberish and gets free sweatshirts. havent seen one edit from him and his facebook picture is him one foot 50-50ing a flat rail
 
I met a kid freshman year at college and he said he used to be sponsored by Armada, so of course I see him at the mountain and he can barely make it down a blue square, I then watched his edit and he could barely hit a flat dance floor box…why do people lie about this shit haha its too easy to call them out on it
 
I mean.. we had Anon send us free stuff for a year and we didn't know shit about any other products they offered. Sponsor does not mean you're on the team.
 
yea same, this kid i know said he was sponsored by full tilt and smith optics. i started to quiz him about different models of full tilts and the IOS and the IOX and stuff and i straight shut him down.
 
My boy convinced me and my friends that he was sponsored by skittles when we were like 13. Told us he would just get big boxes filled with skittles shipped to him. Still can't believe I fell for that shit.
 
Met a guy at a club with an Armada hat on so I went over to talk to him and stuff. He was telling me how he was sponsored by Line and I was drunk and believed him. I don't really remember what we talked about but we talked about Line and skiing in general. Later when I began to sober up I listened to the way he talked and he was definitely lying. I didn't call him out for it but I listened to him talk about training "dub cork 13s" and how he can "10 out of rails". It was a cringe worthy conversation.
 
I remember when I first started out skiing I was so fascinated about sponsors. I would ask anyone semi good if they were sponsored or I would watch people go by the park and make judments if they were either sponsored or not. Or I would talk about trying to get sponsored and all that ramble. Though now skiing is fun and really don't care unless you're having fun.

My boss when I worked at west. Allegedly sponsored by line. Also a giant douche. Hiring his gaper friends and weed connect instead of people that could do the job.

Shockingly he's not working in the park since he left there. He had decent connects through being in the sport for a while but other than that lol.

He could case a 30 foot jump, not hit rails, but pipe was his specialty. Good cover since there weren't many pipes around anymore. He wasn't very good at that either though.
