so i decided to start playing the guitar, really wanna get into playing around the fire on the beach in the summer, might sound cliche or whatever but i don't care. i can play a few things

Can anyone recommend a good, semi cheap acoustic guitar to start off with ?

you can buy a decent ovation for like $300. I really like my Ovation.

They have lower-end models that are called "Applause" i've only played them in the store and I didn't see anything wrong with it. They are usually in the $200-$300 range.

Don't be afraid to buy used either. Ibanez has some good acoustic/electric models. I have never owned one. But if you're just starting up you can't go too wrong with anything. just don't buy a guitar that is in a box.

i just have a standard Yamaha acoustic and its done me good for the last 3 years. it cost me $200 so id say it was a good deal

You could probably get some used stuff at a local Guitar/Music shop or check on craigslist for some decent deals. My brother has a "Hohner" which sounds pretty good and I dont think it was that expensive.

I've hated every Ovation I've ever played. It's that stupid round back. It always slides out on me. If you like it though, good stuff.

I've got a super cheap Epiphone I mess around on, but if I were to get something nicer, I would go with a Taylor or a Larivee, or, if I could find one in good shape, a Tacoma.

Good luck man!

Kevin, i'm gonna come down to Toga and check out that music store on the corner of broadway and caroline ? maybe it's another street. When i played the drums i got a ton of stuff there..it's still there right ?

If you're going 2nd hand make sure it has a solid soundboard and set-in neck. A cheap bolt on will most probably warp or already be warped. Unless of course you're getting a Taylor, then bolt on is fine

ive gotta cast a vote for yamaha, in all honesty. for a lower-end guitar, they are a really good value. something around the 300 dollar range, i would definitely look for yamaha. the ovations are pretty decent too.

and buying used is a really good idea with acoustics too. a lot of people prefer the sound of a 'worked in' acoustic anyways as opposed to a brand new one. just be wary, especially if the guitar is relatively old, people will try to sell you shit they had lying around and when you leave a guitar lying around for years it will warp and bend slightly. make sure its in good condition.

I highly suggest Norman guitars if you can find one in a guitar store near you. Otherwise Ovation is very good as well.

I would suggest Martin and Taylor, but I find that if you are buying those you should go all out, which usually consists of a minimum of $1000.

hahaha! eating ice cream while getting road head might just be the most amazing thing one could do. I'm gonna have to try this. 5th gear, hit the highway.

Get a Little Martin, best guitar for your buck
here is a link, and FYI if you dont know martin is one of the best makers of acoustic guitars and they are usually well over 1000 dollars. These are about 300 and have amazing sound they're 3/4th size so perfect to travel with and jam with. I highly recommend them.

I have been playing for about 9 or 10 years i guess, I'm 20 now and i have 6 guitars, 4 electric two acoustic. One full size acoustic and one mini acoustic and by far thatr guitar gets more play than any of the others.

Do you really get a nice tone out of the small martin?

I have played some $2000 Martins and holy crap, they sounded sooooooooo amazing.

Nah that place closed down idk what it is now but there is a shop on Caroline right in the middle of all the bars but I was told you cant buy any of the guitars on the walls because they are a "Personal Collection" of the guy who owns the shop, he will only order shit for you, but I dont know forsure.
