Looking for a new watch

Whats up ns,

Looking for a new watch, just something to wear day to day. I like a clean, simple design that's not too flashy. Want to spend under $200

The nixon sentry is probably my top choice right now

This yellow Breitling is just out of your price range at 300

For real though, don't just get a shitty Nixon. Pony up a couple more bills and buy a Gucci or a Guess or just something with more brand recognition. It's definitely worth it.

I just bought a Sentry and love it. I got a leather band though, don't know if you're into that but it looks real nice. Also the band is a lot darker brown.

Nice watch man. I may be purchasing this next.

If you want a quality and affordable Swiss made watch-

Tissot PRC 200

It's what I wear and I swear by it.

Get a cheap Seiko automatic dive watch. Cheap, reliable and doesn't scream "I'm in high school" like a Nixon does. Also, tons of people mod Seiko's (swap out faces, hands, bezels, bracelets/straps, etc) for cheap.

{I don't like either of these bracelets, but I like the actual watches)

Dont buy a shitty nixon. Put a bit more into a ballin ass watch like the guy above said. Its not like you buy a new watch that often so get a pimpin one

i've had my current nixon for three years and i take it in the ocean every day, get sand in it, etc. and i haven't had a problem with this or any of the other ones i own. why do you say they're shitty? because they're affordable?

don't be so ignorant, just because something is "cheap" doesn't mean it's shitty

It's the brand recognition, that's all it is.

had a guy come into the shop I work at and order a suunto elementum terra ($1000 watch) so that he didn't accidently scratch his rolex when he went climbing, it'd be nice to have that kinda money...

I have a Citizen Eco-drive Nighthawk WR 200. A little more than $200, but not a lot more. It looks sexy and you never have to change a battery.

Nixon is shit. They aren't creating watches, they just putting a pre-made 10$ dollar shit movement in a deplorable looking mostly plastic case meant to appeal to high school kids.

And as is evident from the website they don't even know if the movement they put in is Japanese or Swiss, that is the sign of a company who isn't in the business to create great watches with passion but of a company just there to earn maximum dollars whilst forsaking any form of quality in the process.

i've owned at least four or five nixons and haven't had a problem once

www.worldofwatches.com

used to by dynamite time.com but sooo many awesome deals on knockoffs, overstock, etc. Got a bunch off of their and you your not getting a rolex...but for a young person so many nice clean watches.

Be warned though a lot of them have way bigger faces than they look online which doesn't look / fit well if you have a small hand/wrist (like me) (but I do have a big dick)

He's not saying they are going to fall apart. He's saying you are paying too much for what you're getting (and they're ugly IMO). It's like paying Mercedes money for a Ford. It's reliable and not going to fall apart on you, but think of what you could picked up instead...

I mean their most expensive watch is the Ceramic 51-30 at $2750 and it only has an ETA 2824-2 movement. You can buy watches with the same movement for less than $300. There is literally nothing that makes it worth $2700...

For comparison, a quick look on watchuseek.forum tells me I can get Omega's, Tag Heuer's, Doxa's, Hamilton's, Bremont's, Aquadive's, UTS's, Breitling's (if you are into that kind of thing). etc. with better movements/more complications/higher depth ratings/etc for less money than that particular Nixon.

It's the same notion as buying BMW and the same notion as buying Macs. You're paying for the name and you're paying for the aesthetics (if they are pleasing to you). Everything on the inside is the same as a car or computer at half the cost.

Personally, I'm fine with it. I really think the expensive, high quality watches generally look like shit. It's all opinion. I really like the look of my watch and I'm willing to pay $150 for what should be $60 because it makes me happy.

This man knows his shit. Have a minute machine and a gearbox and love them both to death. Not a single scratch on the glass. Titanium bracelet and housing. Well worth the money.

I'm excited to see people argue about watches when it doesn't really matter. Wear what you like and what looks good to you. If it is shit quality, don't buy it. If it can tell time, isn't it doing its purpose? I understand that there is a certain craft in different movements but most people don't give half a shit and never will, as long as the watch works and keeps accurate time. Besides, the most internally sophisticated type of a watch is digital. The comparisons to cars are wildly off because a bmw does drive noticeably better than a Ford. What does a Rolex do that a 20 dollar Timex can't?

WINNER! Let's be real, nobody actually uses their watch to tell time anyways.

One face watches. $50 and they donate to whatever organization you think looks the coolest.

why wouldnt the environment one be green and the water one be blue?

Go to Target and get whatever looks good for under $20, then you have $180 to spend on skiing instead of wasting it on a watch

The comparisons are not wildly off.

In reality, comparing a Timex to a Rolex (or other high end watch) is more like comparing a new Ford to a Ferrari F40. The Ford is way more "sophisticated" and complicated (computers and electronics, options and features, etc), more reliable, cheaper to maintain, etc. The Ferrari is simpler, has fewer options, is far less reliable and ridiculously expensive to maintain, yet it is easily the more desirable of the two vehicles.

I have a Nixon time teller P that I use day to day, I like the plastic. It's a good watch, pretty durable.

I also have a swatch Big for looking fancier and such.

The Nixon time teller metal is a solid watch, and is super minimal.

It's more desirable because it goes fast as hell and drives unlike any Ford could ever go. It also looks really cool and is a status symbol. And that's all watches are. They look cool and really only have one purpose. However, you can pour all the money you want into a Rolex and all it's ever going to do is tell you the time, and maybe a few other things that any smart phone could do better. If you actually want a fair translation for the comparison between watches and cars, compare a nice car to a watch that has gps capabilities and can monitor your heart rate. Both items have been engineered to go above and beyond the norm. What is a 20 thousand dollar Rolex doing, other than having a really intricate and fascinating construction? I get why people like nice watches but it's ridiculous sometimes to hear people rag on cheaper brands as if spending more on something to do the same exact makes you somehow superior. It kind of reminds me of dumbass sneakerheads who spend a whole paycheck on some ugly jordans that only their buddies care about. I'm kinda just rambling now but i think you probably get my point.

theyre not cheap, but theyre quality.

i have had a crush for about 10 years now. never had a problem, still gets a ton of compliments.
