Look pivot 115mm brakes on kartel 98s?

Alright so I'm planning on pulling the trigger on some kartel 98s. At the moment I own a pair of look pivot 12s with 115mm brakes, one of which is bent to shit.

My questions to you is this, could I try to just to bend the one brake back and mount those 115mm brakes onto my kartels or should I try to track down two 95mm brakes, replace the ones on my pivots and mount those onto the kartels.

If you have any other recommendations let me know as well. Thanks.

id go with the 95. Will easily fit and wont have as much overhang. 115 is a bit excessive for a 98mm ski

Agreed. I have the 95mm brakes on fks mounted kartels, fits perfectly.

Fuck the 115 overhang, that would totally catch the bottom of my raggedy ski pants and destroy me on landings, or dig into the snow on a hard carve.

Ah I see, well...looks like I gotta track down some 95mm brakes lol.

Mostly going off the fact that you can't swap brakes on pivots once mounted, and in the example above, you're more swapping the spring instead of the brakes.

Pivot brakes are built into the heel piece of the binding, unlike something like Markers that you can pop off with one screw.

would I be able to swap the 115mm brakes for 95mm brakes when they arent mounted?

completely false. They are pricy but you can definitely change them. Also have catefully unscrew the heel and put it back on when done

What do you consider the brake and what do you consider the heel piece?

Is this entire thing a brake? Or is it a heel piece with a brake attached to it?

i was under the impression that you could, you just cant do it while theyre on the ski and it's a pain and expensive to buy the brake etc unit

and OP 115 imo is too much overhang

Thats the brake. The heel Piece is the metal piece that attaches to the wings.

Who cares what part is called what. Fact is you can't swap brakes once the binding is mounted.

So you don't mount the heel piece, you mount the brake to the ski?

You guys are purposely being obtuse. OP clearly said the bindings aren't mounted yet. And yes it is sort of bullshit that the brake etc unit on pivots are made in such a way that the replacement brake part is expensive and involved to replace...but you guys know full well that that part is not "the heel piece" just as the AFD is not the "toe piece."

Idk what point you're trying to prove by being difficult and acting dumber than you are (I see you post knowledgeable stuff all the time), maybe you have a grudge against pivots, but cut the shit

Just playful bullshitting. In the end, unless you can find someone to swap with you a pair of replacement brakes is going to be around the cost of new pivots.

115 on a 98 ski is a severe amount of hangover and you're going to have a bad time. Find someone to swap with or buy a pair of 95 pivots.

This is true...I thought explained it clearly that I didn't actually own the skis but had a pair of pivots that weren't mounted. From what I'm getting at I got my answer though. 115 is too much overhang for the kartel 98s and I'll just have to track down some 95mm brakes. And that you can replace the brakes when the bindings aren't mounted. Correct?

Damn I was writing my post and didn't see this lol. But yeah you also have a point, but I think I'll be able to find a shop to hook me up with some spare brakes.

Thanks for the actual advice though since your right the cheapest solution would be finding someone to trade brakes with me.

Respect, I didn't think you'd respond like that haha. And for the record I'll reiterate that yes it's annoying how much of a bitch it is to replace pivot brakes...I've been there. brakes are clearly the Achilles heel of the pivot line

Yep. I think it's worth noting that you could also grab some smaller ones and bend em out. I have 2003 pivot jibs on my 96 waist skis and those old binders were made for something stupid skinny like 75 or 80mm. Not ideal but better to bend out than have overhang IMO

It's off season now so I'd suggest looking around for a good deal and even checking shops for brake units lying around for cheap
