Longest you have gone with out skiing.

With this short season wrapping up sadly I wont have much to look forward to skiing wise for the next 4 years as I will be in the army. Ill be lucky to go skiing a had full of times. So how many of you have had to take a forced break from skiing and how hard was it for you
 
Ty for your future service.

I've had a few injuries which have put me out, but nothing too crazy. Time off sucks and honesly I couldn't do 4 years w/o snow lol.
 
Props dude. I was dangerously close to signing the dotted line for the Marines last fall, but after a very good first day of the season at the hill. I knew I couldn't handle four years off.
 
Good shit man sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I remember being really paranoid about having to take time off until I watched McConkey and saw the injury montage. It's like Shane ripped every ligament in both knees multiple times, not to mention his miniscule tears. That's all some serious time off, and he still seemed psyched to just get back out there while most would have given up.
 
You don't have to take four years off if you join the military. You earn 2.5 days of leave every month. Save up your days and take a two week long trip somewhere nice every now and then.
 
went to australia for 2.5 years and only came back to canada for the second winter, so about a year and 3 months is the longest. Skied those 4 days i got in whistler like it was the last time i would ever ski, i could barely walk the next few days after.
 
Having to make a big boy adult decision, I had to make the move to Florida for school (not the worst place to be when being forced away from snow/skiing)..... I've logged ONE day of skiing in the past 2 years, with less than 10 days in 4 years....and my "skiing" mostly consisted of hiking early season rails for a few hours......

While it has been a complete kick in the dick, my stoke/hype level for skiing has not dropped one bit......I still find myself constantly lurking on NS, drooling and fapping vigorously at new edits, and shopping online to score the sickest deals on ski gear that I dont even need....

However, I knew what I was signing up for and had set a long term plan. As I finish up my last semester in FL in nursing school (insert focker/murse joke here) I know this time next year I'll be working only 3 days a week and spending the other 4 blowing all of my earnings and skiing my balls off as much as possible....those days can't come soon enough!

I never said I would go 4 years with out skiing. Just from going 20+ days for the last 5 years now going down to a hand full of days in 4 years is going to be tuff.

Nursing can be a very good career for someone interested in skiing a lot, or so I have heard. You might be able to be in a mountain town, and that job is FAR better than what the ski bums are doing. Some of the people who seemed to have it best in Tahoe during my ski bum years were nurses and physical therapists, in edition to orthopedists obviously.

I am older than most here. I went to college then did half a decade in Tahoe. I blew my knee out during my last year in Tahoe, then went to grad school. I only skied a few days during my first year in grad school, partly to give myself time to heal and partly because I was adjusting to a different lifestyle. I guess that almost counts as a year off. Since that year I have gotten around 30 days a season, mostly at Mammoth, so I am back in the swing of things albeit as a weekender.

Thank you for your service OP. And props to you for making a decision based on life rather than just skiing. Skiing was my whole life when I lived in the mountains, but now it is only part of it.
 
last time i skied was july 14, then i blew my knee not long after and will most likely be missing the rest of the season recovering
 
sadly for me all of 8 years. Just got back on the slopes this year actually. At one point i was lacking the money for a trip and then i sort of "got use to not going" if such a thing is even possible. Anyway, having got married last year i took the wife out for her first skiing trip this year and she has since fallen in love with it. so, we are currently planning our third trip of the season for next week :D
 
8 months. 2 months after the season ended in April I had acl reconstruction so I was out until December. The another 8 the next season when I finished up the season, went home and didn't ski all summer then was studying abroad in the fall, didn't ski until December again

Since that, the longest I've been off is like 3 weeks or so. I've skied at least one day per calendar month for the last 15 months
