Been looking for an excuse to start longboarding but dont know the first thing ab where to start. Any brand, size, what to avoid, etc recs for a shmol looking to get his first board?

Keep in mind im mainly getting one to cruise around the neighborhood and campus, not that intense downhill shit

I made this same thread about 9 years ago

got sent to crackedskulls.com

at the time you could get a full setup shipped to canada for $150 so if that company still exists they make good stuff cheap

I have a sector 9 board and I love it, definitely the way to go. I would buy one even if it seems expensive becuase its worth the price. It's the Cadillac of longboards

Sector NIne makes a great board, but if you end up liking it just know you will most definitely end up wanting to upgrade. dont get a pintail either. You will regret it pretty quickly if you end up learning to do anything besides carve down a hill.

As someone just testing the waters im not rly looking to get the cadillac of boards. Id def prefer something more beginner friendly and under 100. The honda civic of boards is more my forte

I used to longboard a lot, here are some thoughts:

Honestly, its like ski boots. You need to hit up a shop and jump on a few until you find one that feels 'right'. (Shit, you really cant do that right now)

I still love my old Sector 9 Goddess of Speed- its super stiff and has a nice concave top you can throw your weight into.

Some people are into the super flexy bamboo boards like the Loaded ones but I never got into those.

There are also flat topped boars with a little ridge in the middle where the arch of your foot is but I never felt stable on those and you cant throw your weight into the edge when you carve like a convex board.

For campus I recommend a smaller board which is easier to bring to a lecture and its more nimble on the smaller walkways and paths of your typical college.
