Long Board crash

sorry if you clicked on this seeking a gnar crash vid but its just a story that happend to me today

so today was a nice day in portland oregon me and my cousin pulled out the longboards to go shred the concrete wave. and it seemed that everything was all "hunky dorey" and we went up to this mellow to steep run by reed college in SE. its a nice run, good for a warm up for the season. so while we were skating to the run my front left wheel started squeeking. i thought nothing of it. as we were walking up woodstock and i notice that the axle to that wheel was getting hot. still i thought nothing of it. we skate on 39th to the start of the run and i sit to roll up a smoke. i notice a slight odor. and i STILL think nothing of it.. start the run and its awsome.. good turns, no traffic and then right after this steep section im carving it way hardcore, i make a heel side carve and when im going back toside the front wheel comes off and i slam and slide on the blacktop. i look up to se my wheel bouncing down the street. so i lay there for a couple seconds and my cousin chases down my wheel. lucky for me nothing is broken and i avoded hitting my head on the ground. i had road rash full length of my leg, rock in the palm of my hand, my elbow was almost to the bone( bloody as fuck) and my ankle bone bump was scraped up as all hell... upon inspection of my wheel. the bearings were fucked... one was complety sezed and the wheel had melted from the inside and the axle bolt had came off and led to my epic crash to day.... so in retrospective i needed to check my gear but thank fully the wheel is salvagable and i hopefully can use the trucks still.. at the same time walking back to my house.. i felt really fuckin alive... like i crash all the time on the snow... on the street.. not that much..

ps if my grammer sucked... i am truley sorry!

I didn't even read it, I'm just really pissed there's no video. This thread has officially been deemed..worst of the night.

go die

jk lol :P

gnarly. that's why countless athletes in countless sports spend countless hours combing over their equipment. sometimes it could mean life or death. i.e. rock climbing or sky diving.

shit...... i am glad i pre apologized for that one... but yeah.. with the bearing shot it was pretty much metal on metal and that heats up quite fast. and that heat melted the wheel and the plastic that is on the inside of the bolt that holds the wheel on the axle... when that plastic melted the bolt came off from just the vibrations.

Damn..you got real lucky. My friend almost died a couple years ago in a longboarding crash. Scariest thing i've been a part of. We would hit up some realllly big hills daily. Even carving the entire width of the road the whole time, we'd still get going sooo so fast. I was sposed to meet him and my other friend at the hill after school..I arrived at the top of the hill and obv. could't see to the bottom cuz its so big and steep. A guy driving up the hill towards me saw me with my longboard and asked me if i was with a guy named elliot(my friend), and he told me that he had been in a serious accident. I immediately dropped my board and started sprinting to the bottom of the hill. As soon as the bottom of the hill came into site, I saw a load of ambulances and firetrucks..my heart dropped..none of us ever wore helmets when we were riding. It was a verry close call..he had serious head trauma and was in an induced coma for weeks. After over a year in rehibiltation he was somewhat back to his normal self. Still good friends with him and thankful he's alive. I haven't been longboarding since.

These are the kinds of things I wear a a helmet for. I won't bomb a hill if I'm not wearing it. I just feel so much better about my personal safety. I'd rather avoid any type of head accident that I can.

Also, join the cult in my signature :)

yeah i think i might dust of the ol pro tec . yeah last year i watched this kid who just got a deck that was way out of his leauge haul down a hill corner and avoded a car to fall off his board hit his chin on a curb and bounce into a hedge and then a house... i almost puked.....
