so i have been wanting to make the switch for a while now, but my dad is worried about something, and i don't know the answer:

our internet provider, telia, has a login page to get online, and it says you should use IE to access that site... when i use MSN, i have to have logged in before on the IE login page... so if i switch from IE to Firefox, will this cause a problem to login? do i have to change some internet connection settings? does everything that uses IE work with FireFox?

First of all,

You don't really need to make the switch. You can run both IE and Firefox (seeing as how you can't uninstall IE you have to!) at the same time. So, if you download firefox you can test it out to see if it works with that login page. If it does, great!, if not, then just continue to use IE.

I've found that almost everything that works for IE also works for Firefox. In fact, i've yet to find something that doesnt! heh, even microsoft's website works ;)

Hope that answers your question! You'll love Firefox.

ok, will do... my dad is still stressing out that it'll mess up everything... does it take all the settings from IE and use them and leave them like that in IE?

sence my campus email is set up to be used with IE i use IE for it. You can use both at same time, it dosent matter.

The only noticeable differences that I've seen with Firefox are increased page loading speed and less fucking viruses and attacks. No more random websites giving me 25 popup windows and a virus. That, and it doesn't suck. And the popup blocker is great.

Bahahaha... or, you could call it the 'elitist snob' cult. Anyways, my family already owns a country club, so no thanks.

with XP service pack 2 IE has a good popup blocker.

Although i used to sue firefox i ahve tos ay the latest IE isnt that bad at all (in ym experience). However firefox is a lovely browser and id highly reccommend it. I just can't be arse with to browsers and Ie works fine just now.

As regards connections ettigns

IE is a browser. it cant handle any sort of connection. It can route to a connecting etc, but ti cant actually make the connection to an ISP. that is done by a modem. your modem can handle it. and if its broadband or cable then IE will pick up the connection.

By the ISP saying that you should use IE (i'm assuming tis some sort of webpage you visit to make config changes). I think they eman that they have built there site specificlly for use on IE. There is nothign saying it won;t work with other browsers (which it more than likely will).

As, i think it was Jason (*Cowboy*) said, try it, test it, and if it works, keep it.
