Local art?

Hey guys I'm looking to get some stuff up on my walls and I want to get some stuff from relatively unknown artists or photographers. Do you guys know of any websites that I can look for some cheap but well done art. It doesn't necessarily have to be local but what really I'm looking for is some cool kind of abstract oil on canvas or matted landscape shops.
 
I was in an art journal class last quarter at school and a lot of the art we put into the journal was for sale, so if you're in school I would try looking into buying stuff from kids there.
 
you should try to make you own art. see if like it or not. i have a friend that streches his own canvas boards and he like it quite a bit and says that he doesnt want to every buy any art. he likes his better because it can relate to himself and it what he is interested in. plus it is a good time killer
 
Yeah I mean if you're really looking for like authentic unknown art you really should like look around like your really hip/ independent local coffee shop and pretty much everywhere has some kind of gallery that well sell prints as well if you're not looking to spend a lot of money.
Oh and if you ever in Burlington VT go to STEEZE and look at their paintings and posters its really cool Bankseyesque graffiti art.
 
Well I live outside of Chicago so I'm probably just gonna end up taking a trip downtown soon and looking for some places there. Im bound to find something
