Living/Working in Vail

So I'm lookin to work out in Vail this winter and I suppose I don't really care what job I get. Has anyone worked out there before? Is it a pretty solid choice? Also, what should I do for housing? Is the employee housing alright or should I be lookin for someone to room with in a real place? And should I be checkin out places right in Vail or should I check out Avon or anywhere else?

alright so there are a few of us in here that did it at least last year and probably a few who did it before that, but as far as i know im the only one who actually worked FOR vail and not a shop or something, so ill answer from that perspective...
first off, employee housing has it's ups and downs, and it totally depends which option you go with. if you want more details, send me a PM and ill get back to you sometime later on today. im not doing it next year though, but i would almost suggest doing it your first season cause it's cheap and easy and you dont have to do a bunch of work to find a place while youre sweating the other logistics of moving out there.
as far as finding a hosue, ive got other advice on that too, so again, send me a message. but the long and short of it is that if youre living in vail, your only 3 reasonable options are vail, eagle-vail, and avon for housing. anyplace else is just going to be too damn inconvenient. however, if you think you have what it takes to go up there and find a house, go for it. that's what im going to do.
the only thing though is that if you want to get a house on your own, you reaaaaally need to think about getting out there in like august. if you wait much longer, the rent prices are going to jump over your head for the season. i went out last year after i graduated college, but since i didnt graduate until december all of the houses had gotten waaaaaay too expensive, so i just went with employee housing cause i was desperate. you might just find that when you move there is so much craziness going on that you might just prefer the convenience of employee housing cause it takes some of the stress out of moving out there. plus you'll meet lots of cool people who also work for the mountain.
oh, and yeah, you're making a good choice, vail is super super super fun and i had the time of my life last year, that's why im doing it again.
but anyway, like i said, send me a message and ill tell you whatever you want to know, im working on a few of my friends at home right now who are trying to do the same thing so ive been giving a lot of advice lately.

lots of fun. not too hard to figure out, just plan ahead and have enough loot saved up. If you want to ski home, live in east vail or west vail. or minturn. but yea i'd stay within the TOV bus route and you are all set for transportation and such. i've lived in east vail for 2 seasons now and it's fucking great. nice and quiet, and there is some balls terrain for your last run of the day. bus runs every 15 mins.

If you work in Vail I would not get a place in eagle vail or avon. If you do, you will need to find cheap/free parking which is scarce or be at the mercy of the eco-bus. Honestly Vail emp. housing is kind of crappy. However finding a 6 mo lease isn't the easiest thing to do either. To look for houses go to Vaildaily.com

Check out skijob1.com for job postings by the first week in sept all of em should be up. I work at the beav but i was def at t-ridge vail employee housing alot fun party's crappy apartments but its def cheap and livable lol, check out craigslist up here too i just found an awesome place and theres def alot more that r opening up!

I worked at vail for 2 winters a couple years ago. as a Groomer which was so much fun. I got my job so easy. I lived in edwards which made rent alot cheaper
