Living in Govy

Does anyone have experience living in govy in the winter? I’ve heard mixed things regarding the locals, weather, etc. Thinking about doing a season at timberline but wanted to get some input.

No hate on oregon or mount hood, but there are probably 20 other places I'd rather spend a winter. Any specific reason you're picking Govy?

Can't speak for living in Govy but I live down the road and I can say it's sick for being close to three resorts: 10 minutes to T-line, 2 minutes to the bowl, and about 20 minutes to Meadows. If you like rails, the bowl is unmatched. Yes, it rains a lot and the locals are pretty cool from my experience.

Lived up at hood summer of 04 to end of summer 05. At the brew pub employee housing. It was absolutely wonderful winter at hood is much more chill than summer hands down. I'd say do it

Winters at Mt. Hood are nice. Govy isn’t too bad either. Locals in Govy are cool, rowdy at times but good folk that look out for one another. You could literally walk to the ski bowl rope tow as well. However, the only downside that comes with living in govy is a super limited access to resources. There is a small store that you can buy groceries but it is VERY expensive. Alongside with gas on the mountain, VERY expensive. If you want to get groceries that are a little cheaper you have to go to Welches which is still an expensive grocery store in comparison to the Safeway in Hood River or Sandy. However, if you don’t care about being broke, or have a little cash stored, Govy is a great place to spend a season. Great culture, great people, and great skiing.

Don’t go to the thriftway in Welches they rip people off on groceries so hard there. The move is Fred Meyer in sandy and hitting joes donut shop on the way back

Govy would be cool but I think I would do bachelor. Lived in welches for a bit and it was cool in a hermit type of way but timberline really shines in the summer/spring

Govy is pretty cool, definitely different from a lot of other ski towns (not super corporatized except for collins lake). Groceries are expensive so like someone else mentioned you would probably want to do your shopping in Sandy or Portland. I live in Portland and personally I would not want to live in Govy in the winter but if you can find a place for a good price it could be pretty sick. There's definitely a rowdy crowd of people living there if you're into partying and stuff.
