Line...

I recently was told from a top source that line doesn't want to have sponsored athletes anymore. they just want to be able to sell skis like some big sell out corporation. all their athletes have either left or been dropped (on their pro team), excluding pollard and battersby and who knows how much longer they'll last. to me it seems like line is going downhill and that they don't care as much as they used to. this is what happens when money becomes more important than passion. i no longer have respect for line. what about everyone else?...

i have respect for the line elizabeth as a cool ski and eric pollard for a skier & person

...that's all i have to say. but i do see what you mean about them turning into some super corporation.

sad.

i thought battersby left

henry:we should go in them

Sounds like they are having some money issues. Is it that they do not want athletes or that they can not afford athletes. Is it that they do not want to go to SIA in Vegas to be more core or is it they can not afford to go to Vegas?

dude you have no idea what you are talking about. line is not 'selling out'. just wait.....

i know line lost some money with their bindings but this has nothing to do with money. its not that they can't afford athletes or anything for that matter, its just they don't want to waste money on athletes. they just want to sit back and make money without caring about what really matters.

i'm bummed about bibby and dash leaving

i don't want this to get out too far but i heard ninthward has sex with armada-Twix_182

just look at bunny slope beginner (non twin tip skis) that they slaped their name on for money and do u honastly think still making skiboards is progresssing the industry?!?

no what i'm saying is, they lost the reason why the company was made in the first place. they created this company because of their passion to ski, but now they don't care about that passion, they care about money. they sold out.

sradical, you are so out of it.

Line is a serious business and they cannot afford to pay contracts for skiers that do not represent the actual market.

I know that Line is the small company that sells the most twin tips between Armada, 4FRNT, Liberty and Ninthward.

Line has been around for 10 years and the others are still in start up mode, which means they probably still spend more than make out of sales. This means that if these companies don't grow within the next few years they will not be able to sustain the way they spend their money.

Line is probably at that point where if they want to still compete with their product they need to be smart on how to spend their money.

It makes no sense to throw 15 000$ on a skier if he doesn't give it back in advertisement value. As far as I see, Pollard has been the only Line rider getting real exposure for a while. Ashley has great potential but still need to prove herself in the coming years.

I believe some of the riders left because they had great offers from bigger companies and Line wasn't ready to go all the way and match contracts. Other were maybe kicked off because they didn't fullfill their responsabilities...

It makes no sens going to Vegas and spending over 40-50 000$ to be there if you'll have the same amount of impact with your sales force going from shop to shop. I'm pretty sure most buyers make their decisions upon local sales support from a brand and not if they have a booth or not...

It's easy to balantly call out companies like you did, but if you really knew what and how companies function you would quickly realize that Line is one of the few selfsufficient company on the freeski market...

no, rider salaries are not all that count, but when riders are loyal to their sponsor, work their asses off, get hurt, ski for next to nothing...i would think LINE would show a little bit of loyalty back the guys and girls that worked so hard to promote their company and sell their products.

(my opinion)

^ well put. i dunno if its all accurate, because i'm not informed on the topic... but nice work none-the-less. and shradical.. who is your "Top source"? And i agree, and Pollard, and Ashley are the two Line riders that get the most publicity. They still have a pretty solid team. Craig Coker, Tim Russel..... these guys are awesome.

they aren't selfsufficient. they're owned by trak sports.

Tim got a sweet offer from Atomic, Line didn't want to loose him but couldn't afford to match (so I heard).

I'm pretty sure Line has been a long time supporter of it's rider even when they're injured or over the hill...

progression comes through the athletes. if they don't have any athletes then they're not going to be innovative. they will copy other companies see whats selling and then create that themselves.

i get what you are saying^

but...in my opinion, whether we all want to admit it, image sales. so they (LINE) may be shooting themselves in the foot.

hope not, but there are a lot of young people out there who do not understand how business works, nor do they care. they buy the skis, or basketball shoes for that matter strictly because eric pollard or michael jordan uses that product.

i don't know though....

shradical - that was the best thing you have said all day!!

you are dead on 110% right, without top athletes it is hard to progress your products.

and yes, they do have pollard, but the skis he is developing are not realistic for very many people, unless they ski out of a heli on a day to day basis.

there are not many people that can and would ski a 150mm underfoot ski -- even though pollard kills it on that ski...

that makes me wonder how long pollard will stay with them or how long line will stay with pollard. if he won't ski their public skis then i think that kind of says something about the product. maybe he refuses to ski on their "normal" skis.

sort of like Salomon, Atomic, Rossi (other than Sage)....

these companies are wrecking all that could be good.

why can't these huge companies be more like Burton - they are huge but still rad.

of course line will continue to hand out skis here and there through reps, but that doesn't mean they have a team or that those kids are sponsored. its just marketing. these "am" kids, they don't care about. they're just trying to get kids sold on their product so they buy and support it. all companies hand out skis, no matter how lame they are. fischer, stockli, all those huge race companies. they just want to make money they don't care about progression. line is becoming lame.

and nicole i think k2 should be added to that burton list. and stop being so type happy.

A few of you are right on the money but you others are so far off. Let me ask you this, would you rather see big companies support high paid athletes or core companies supporting up and comers like yourself? I am fully behind the direction line is headed. its so much more tight for a company to behind less known athletes then people who have been around for years, support the future of skiing.

to address the second issue. how can you really thing line is going to copy other companies?

Wasnt line the first independent newschool company. and tell me about progression, who elnse has designed such a progressive binding.

O yeah and look at the prophets, line was the first comany to make such a wide powder ski. O yeah and they are one of the first to come out with the symetrical flex pattern and the progressive sidecut in the elizabeths and invaders.

And after looking at all the recent polls on peoples favorite ski companies line has been the top company in every one.

alright wolfman, i don't think you get what were talking about. i'm not talking about where line has been or what they did or where they're at now. i'm talking about where they're going; down the poop can. right now they still support athletes and up-and-comers but, they will eventually stop. give it a some years, maybe one maybe five, but i think we'll all start to see a decline in lines involvement with progression.

wilson is on salomon and skogens on line, and i thought that ashley was on k2 too, but in the latest edition of freeskier it says she on line

how would losing pros make them sell outs? that makes no sense at all. some of you people should think about that. and stop arguing until u know the truth of why. and not being loyal to their athletes? im pretty sure the pros moved onto sumthing else, Line didnt do anything to lose loyalty did they? I don't know, that's because I, like most likely the rest of you here, don't have the low down on everything

Anyway, a gas station we pass. We got gas, and ran off to get grub.It was a nice little pub in the middle on nowhere. Anywhere woulda been better. I ordered enchiladas and I ate 'em, Ali had the fruit punch.

its great how you acted like you knew everything and then shot yourself down. don't assume that everyones opinion is just an opinion. a lot of people on here know what they're talking about. its not all 14 year old ski brahs that think they know everything.
