Line masterminds or chronics?

So..after searching and reading many reviews i have set myself between the chronics and the masterminds

the truth is that i am looking for a cheap freestyle ski for everyday in the park and resort

i want the ski to ski similar to my JJ's

however i have to make the rightest choice

i am 5.7 and 145lbs and i am not a jibber at all but i do some grabs 360s etc but on the other hand i would like to improve my jibbing skills

the two choices i have at this moment are

173 line chronic (but will the 173 platform give me enough ski?i skied a 171 atomic access one time and felt like small and had no tail at all)

177 masterminds which seem to be allright for park and improving my skills but...

help me out please!:)

I doubt either of those will ski like the JJ. Definitely go for the longer size if you thought a 171 was short. Either will be a decent choice for beginner park skills. The mastermind is definitely a jib stick, the chronic will kill it all over the mountain. I have cryptonites (same as the chronic) and I love them.

Go with the masterminds. Even though the Chronic is going to be an all around nicer ski, its not really going to fit into the category you are looking for, which from what I can tell, is an intermediate park ski. If you already have the JJ there is no need to go to the Chronic because you already have a nice all-mountain/powder ski. Masterminds will also save you money compared to the Chronics.

The masterminds will feel very playful at first but after a season they feel dead or break. If your getting them cheap (less then $200) pull the trigger. other wise go with chronics.

Another option in between are Line Traveling circus ski. Probably the in between of mastermind and chronics. go 178 for all three skis.

Masterminds will get beat up very easily the chronics will hold up a few seasons... the whole ltraveling circus use to ski the chronics.

thanks a lot for the feedback!!really appreciate it

i was going to buy a pair of step-ups (great bargain) but they had been out of stock before i could visit tha bank

anyway

a friend of mine who (about same size/weight) is given new skis for free every year has several pairs of freestyle skis and offered me pairs of masterminds, afterbangs and chronics all new with jesters

they are barely used just like new but they are not a bargain at all

that is why i need to be sure

i guess i will go with the masterminds..they seem ideal for me although i will have to dig into my pocket

last question and problem solved

for my size 5.7 145 what size of masterminds would you get?

i guess the 177..they seem to have enormous tail but i guess i will like it

or should i go shorter?

If your just getting into park don't be afraid to go short it will help you get spins around much easier, and make sure to center mount

Beware of landing backseat on the Mastermind's Two friends broke their Masterminds behind the binding after backseat landings.
They're a really good price point ski, I had a pair and liked them.

if you want a softer ski get the mastermind if you want a firmer ski thats more durable get the chronic and if you want a ski that's symmetrical and you can just beat the piss out of get the afterbang it all comes down to what you are going to be doing on it and how long you plan to have it also as for size if you ski aggressively get the taller size the 176/7/8 it won't hurt you to have more ski it adds stability if you want it to be lighter on rails go with the 171 i wouldn't go under 171 at your height and weight hope that helps

the chronics are one of the sickest park skis around. the masterminds are super light and flex really well though, i have last years masterminds if your pretty decent at park or on the fence id go with chronics...they look sicker this year too

The chronics are expensive as fuck but if you're alright to pay for them they're definitely the more versatile ski.
