Line Magnum Opus

Just watched that video on the front page of the Magnum Opus. In there it said core is made of balsa wood and flax seed composite. Don't know what flax seed composite is but i do know that balsa is super light as well as being weak. Seems like it could have some durability issues. Any thoughts on this?

I believe the cores are made by Bcomp. If not Line is likely making their own version in house that will have similar properties to the Bcomp core. Here's a picture of the Bcomp flax seed and balsa core:

The light coloured wood is the balsa, the black lines are the flax seed, and the darked coloured wood is another species, probably maple or something. Because of the balsa strips being so thin while being supported by the flax seed composite and the other wood, they're far less prone to snapping and deteriorating over time. I definitely think they'll hold up over time.

From what I've heard those cores make for a very light ski, that still has a very damp feel, two things that usually don't go hand in hand. I can't remember who I talked to about these cores, but they sounded promising. I think they'll be a good fit for the Magnum Opus.

Its the same core they use on the sickdays right? Those skis are so good for a line ski. They have a great light feel much lighter then the sfb for example. They ski really well though i really like the sd95 as a groomer/all mnt ski. Durability wise we sold quite a few sick days last year and had no returns so hopefully that is a good sign.

Balsa wood being weak is a myth. In terms of strength to weight ratio it is better than steel is. It's just so light that the volume of balsa wood required to get a desired strength is pretty large.

Ok that makes sense in the video it sounded like it was just balsa and flax seed.

It's similar to the core in candide's skis. It is much stronger than you would think. Those skis have held up extremely well for everyone I know who has them.

These skis have gone through all the in house and on hill tests we have in place then some since this new Cloud Core is a new tech core we've brought in. thanks for asking!

Not sure why this was down voted, it's true. If you aren't slamming into rails and concrete, then the balsa flax core will hold up great with the addition of being wicked light.
