What steps do you take to get your images from your camera to either the web or printed? I already know how to do this, just seeing how others prefer to do it.
For example1. Take Pictures2. Import to computer and put in certain file.3. Open lightroom and Import photos to lightroomand so on
How do you organize your images? Do you make a new catalog for each time you upload new stuff?Or do you just have a bunch of different collections? After you have edited them, do you export your pictures into a folder on your computer then on to the web?
This is probably gonna be really confusing but hopefully someone catches what I was trying to ask+K for responses

What your talking about is called a workflow. Mines really bad and unorganized and i pay the price with so many duplicates its almost impossible to sort now. But my rough workflow is this:

Import to computer in new folder.

Convert to DNG if not shot that way already.

Import to Lightroom photos i want.

Process, not heavily but almost every photo needs some sort of processing no matter, its even gone through processing before it was saved to the cf card in camera so dont say processing is wrong different than shopping.

Export from lightroom as tiffs.

Open in PS and set image size to 9 inches long dimension by 300 ppi.

Unsharp mask.

1 point black stroke for border.

Save. Print if thats the target.

This works well for me in terms of work to be done but i really need to work on my archival steps cause all this just ends up on my desktop until it gets too cluttered at which point i just throw all the stuff on my desktop in a folder titled Misc. 1, 2 , 3 etc. somewhere on my HD.

Thanks man, that was exactly the response I was looking for +K. I made a special folder in "My Pictures" that I put all my shots in. Inside that there are more folder categorized by months. Then in each month I name each shoot. Hope that's gonna keep me pretty organized. I also have another folder for all my edited photo's categorized the same way.
+k for anyone else who wants to share their "workflow" and how they stay organized.

BUMP I NEED HELP

So i have Lightroom 3 and this is my problem....

I plug in camera

Copy photos I want into "my pictures" folder

Open Lightroom

Edit photos in there (dont have PS yet)

Open up "my pictures" folder from my "Hard Drive"

The photos are not synced...

How can I edit my photos from "my pictures" in Lightroom, SAVE THEM, and have the exact same photos i just messed with, sync accordingly in "my pictures" folder.

I DONT WANT DUPLICATES

i dont wanna make a thread yet so i'll ask my question here:

i have lightroom 2.5 right now but i want 3. if i torrent 3 will i have to move all of my photos from 2.5 to 3? like, downloading 3 won't just update 2.5 will it? it's a completely separate program correct?

I'm not totally sure on this because I haven't upgraded yet, but I think you can upload your LR2 catalog into LR3. Correct me if I'm wrong.

plug in your memory card, convert to .DNG within lightroom, make a new catalog on your external hard drive or pictures folder on your comp, i always organize it by date and then event, so like 2010-8-Porn. whenever you move the folder you just have to locate it again and it'll sync all the photos for you
