I will paypal $10 (not kidding) to whoever can take some time whether it's PM or IMing on something else to help me understand the "exporting" situation i am having.

**i upload a picture i took from my camera today...put it in specific folder on my hard drive, open up lightroom, edit the photo but when i save it or "export" it, it is not overwriting the original in that folder, it looks just like how i took it on the camera!! and i do NOT want duplicates, if i edit a photo and save it, i want it to be THAT and ONLY THAT photo**

i've watched many tutorials online and through adobephotoshopper.com and for some reason it's not working..

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

this is not a joke, i promise.

i use a MAC by the way.

talk to ya'll tomorrow, sl-_-p time.

Im using LR2 so it may be different, but if, and I DONT recommend it, you want to overwrite the picture, couldnt you just export > (under export location - first tab) export to: change to "same folder as original" > existing files: change to "overwrite without warning"

That should work..

Yeah if your shooting digital you should keep originals straight from the camera and edited copies. Then if you ever want a re-edit or a full res copy (if you resize the edits) you'll have it.

Well an easy solution would be to save the photo in a folder, find the original and delete it.Although i would never delete the original...thats a bad idea.

i think i just figured it out, thanks guys..

and as far as keeping the original i'll mess around with that in the future, but i have another question regarding "exporting"

should i always save them as jpg's or is there any better clarity/sharpness with the TIFF/DNG format...

Thanks

with jpegs it is a lossy compression format, so compresses the file size which does lose some detail etc but not a really noticable amount. TIFF gives a huge file size and is usually used for people sending images to fashion mags etc. where they need reallly high quality images and i think further editing can be done as layers arent compressed (might be talking bullshit, someone help?)
So I'd say you'd be best to stick with JPEG.

need to bump this...

importing some photos and after i do some 'post' i "Export" them and in my "Export" settings i have the following...

Export to Specific File

Existing File: OVERWRITE WITHOUT WARNING

and thats it..everything else is not checked or messed with..

so then i export it, thinking it will overwrite the original, but when i open up Finder and go to THAT folder to view the pic, the ORIGINAL is still there! wtf?

so i go into LR again and Export it, but this time i check the box to "Rename file" and have it same name as the original, only i have it add a "-2" to the .jpg filename..

is there ANYWAY to make it so i dont have to do that every fucking time, since i DONT want the original sometimes, if they are reallllly shitty before 'post'

If they are shitty before post, they are shitty after post. Stop deleting the originals.
