Lifting and Skiing

I wasn't going to respond.

but since you brought up my pet peeve "extreme sports"

I'll entertain this nonsense.

when I hear someone say the term "extreme sports" it displays that all skiing, snowboarding, skating, moto, are just sports. sports that anyone can participate in, and to an extent I agree with you... skiing is just a sport to many, something they do on the weekends in the winter, then forget about it durring the week and all summer. tending to go towards other past times or sports.

So why do you have to add extreme? because it's so knarly? because it's "insane"? or do you really beleive you are being ex-treme by participating in said activities? honestly I feel a football field is a far more dangerous place compared to a ski hill. and i know the numbers don't lie either. and those dudes have shit loads of pads.

thefreedictionary.com defines a sport as,

"Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively."

so does skiing have rules? so do you frequently compete? because I know i don't and I am still a skier.

Sure skiing has rules, for example down hills skiing always has the right away, some parks don't allow inverts, etc. And plenty of people complete, fuck even I have been in multiple competitions at my tiny ass mountain that no one has heard about, it's still competitive even though I suck. Your definition is stupid as shit, also why are you nit picking about it being classified as a sport, what is wrong with sports?

Its probably a good thing to know that the more you weight the more you are prone to injure yourself. Falling on your wrist with a heavy 180lbs is exponentially rougher for your bone than if you weight a swift 150lbs. I never injured myself a single time in my life(I throw down a lot, not only skiing), thats why I laugh at people telling me that skinny dudes are more fragile.

I see where you're going, but you're logic is mis-guided.

The odds of someone putting on 30lbs in the off season, one, is highly improbable.

Two, it's not so much getting big. Strengthening your legs, shoulders, and core will HIGHLY decrease your chances at getting hurt.

Consider this, if you don't have the leg strength to catch yourself after a gnarly fall, you run the risk of over-compensating for lack of strength and potentially hurting your back or breaking another bone in your body.

Working out your legs and back/core more will greatly decrease your chances of getting hurt. It's not just about putting mass on.

Strengthening your shoulders will also decrease chances of a damaged rotor cuff.

Just saying. The pros highly out-weigh the cons.

fuck paying money to go lift heavy shit, imma go chop and stack firewood, save myself money and heat my house, then go for a bike ride out in nature instead of spinning some worthless wheel in a stuffy office room, thats some real ski training for ya.

I agree with you, I am not too fond of the term "extreme sports" either but that's what common folk associate them as (skateboarding, snowboarding, bmxing etc.) Im sorry I cant change it. Mabye "sports of freedom" would be a better term but what ya gunna do.
