Life fucked me right last night

So my buddies and I are all done and out of school for the summer so we decide to go up to my cabin in the mountains to celebrate summer. We're a classy set of fellows so we get some boxed wine and some whiskey. We then get to thinking, what better way to compliment cheap wine then cheap pasta! Mac n cheese it is.

We party a bit, do our thing, it's whatever. It's a nice night so around midnight we decide to go for a walk into town. We get about a half a mile from my house when suddenly a cop pulls up behind us and starts flashing his lights. My initial reaction was that we were to loud or someone saw us pissing on the side of the road.

As it turns out, some dude had come up on a party bus and had been beat up by a group of guys. The cops accuse us of beating up the guy, breathalyze us and take us to the station for questioning.

When we get to the station, they separate the five of us, ask us questions, they really tried to force a confession out of my friend by lying to him and what not. Finally they realize that it wasn't us so we are thinking we are free to go.

Wrong. The town has a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking and we are all 19. It's about two in the morning and one of the cops involved says his shift is over and if it were his case and up to him, we would all be off scott-free. Unfortunately, the cop that was running the case felt obligated to reprimand us somehow. All of us have to now enroll in a "Restorative Justice" program because we pleaded guilty to underage drinking. (Also maybe because we are such hood rats and do criminal things in our spare time. Cause math and aero-space engineering majors have sooooo much free time to do hood rat shit)

Our crime: Being in the wrong place at the wrong time

Our punishment: A very slight slap on the wrist that is really just a pain in the ass

So just remember folks, when life wines and dines with you, she still may take you to bed and screw you good

TL;DR people: If you don't read it, I don't give a shit

Cliff Notes:

OP and friends get tipsy and walk around town. Police offices mistakes them for another group of young males who had just fled the scene of beating up someone. They get taken into the station for questioning but the cops soon realize they have the wrong group of drunk kids. However before leaving the police station, the nice officer working the case slaps OP and friends with underage drinking charges.

OP is now certified Hoodrat.

wrong. you were drinking under age. yea americas law is bullshit. but if you do it, expect to pay the consequence if you get caught.

Even though you technically broke the law it seems like they reprimanded you over a pride issue because they shook up the wrong group of kids and felt stupid for taking it so far and you being drunk allowed them to justify their mistake. Total waste of resources in my opinion.

Lolol thats what the cops said. And yeah we're owning up to it. I'm I understand the consequences for partying underage. I'm not bitching or anything

Yeah that's going to be a problem. It's gonna be a problem for them. This a clear violation of your rights as a teenager! It's an infringement on your constitutional rights. It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous.

wow sounds a lot like a sittuation i was in a month ago. minus the booze. and the police. and the cabin. and the friends. actually it was just me masturbating.

Or rather than doing whatever the fuck it is that they want you to do, you could simply pay the fine. I got one in MN, and it was $100 (ofcourse they tack on an $85 fee to nearly double that). BTW, you have not pled guilty to underage drinking until you go to court and do so.

It seems to me that cops need less and less legitimate of reasons to detain people, wtf brought in for a crime you had nothing to do with, and then called on something that they originally had no intent incriminating you for

oh man i feel so bad for you, your life is so hard because you got caught being drunk by the law.

seriously though don't complain unless you have something serious to complain about

Sick dude, hell yeah

For all ya'll that say I'm complaining, did I ever complain? I never said anything like "screw the cops" or "man this is stupid." Hell, I just think it's a pretty funny story about how easy it is to get in trouble.

I guess some context would have been good. Town has 5000 people. No one ever gets beat up in a town of 5000 people. What an unlucky coincidence is it that we just happen to be a group of guys walking around town and another group of guys beats up another guy? That's all. That's what I meant by wrong place, wrong time

We wouldn't have been stopped had it not been for some freak coincidence. Yeah we drank. Even the police told as that next time we party, just stick around the cabin. I don't care that I have to do "restorative justice" despite the fact that there isn't a victim of my crime.

Lifes a bitch. Not.

Hey, my life is pretty good right now, can't complain about it. Just this minor inconvenience

God the internet is serious fucking business

Everyone is shitting on you because you said your crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. People who think they are entitled to underage drink just because they can get alcohol then try and blame it on some other thing when they get caught (i.e. being in the wrong place at the wrong time) are just plain fucking stupid.

You did something illegal, you got caught, your crime wasn't being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

True story. I guess I was writing it a bit tongue in cheek

DISCLAIMER: Do not OP so damn seriously

Also to who ever asked if my friends and I are black, that's was my first thought. Had any of us been black guys, we would have been booked and the situation would have actually been bad

Systemic racism through the police force for the win

I was only asking because I thought this was a made up story to make fun of the other thread about some kid who got "jumped" by three "big black guys"

I guess it's real though

Not to start a pointless internet fight but...

Just because something is a law makes it morally right?

My one (yes I have one) complaint is that we weren't actually disturbing anyone, we were just minding our own business and we still end up getting on the wrong end of the law

I am pretty hard believer in Mill's Harm principle (do anything you want as long as it doesn't harm others) but unfortunately not every law is designed that way.

This, why does everybody have to make up bullshit excuses? You played the game and got caught, that's not a judgement call from me, but just take responsibility for your actions.

Today I was driving my car 60 in a 55, and thought about this. If I got pulled over...yea it would be pretty shitty, but hey I was technically breaking the law, so I will own up to the consequences.

I think this actually brings up a good conversation.

Say you are driving your white car home from work, going the speed limit but you are not wearing your seatbelt. Somewhere along the road, someone before you shot at some road signs and the neighbors called the cops. The neighbors claimed it was a white car that had drove away. The police pull you over, find that you don't have a gun on you and decide that you are innocent of shooting road signs. The cop then notices that you are not wearing a seatbelt and in this state that is illegal

At this point he has a few options:

Apologize for pulling you over, mention that you should put on your seatbelt, and say have a nice day

Or the cop could slap you with a ticket for not wearing a seat belt

Technically you are breaking the law, but anyone I know would be very pissed at the officer

Maybe you ride a higher horse than I, but like SLO said, "What actions?"
