Life after skiing?

So last night I watched the new Freeskier RTC and got stoked to see Michael Clarke make a special guest appearance. I haven't heard anything about him in a while. He's obviously not skiing full time anymore so it made me wonder what he's up to now and that brought me to another question. What are pros realistically going to do after their ski careers are over? Are they planning their future after skiing right now? Do you think they worry about what is going to happen when they can't ski for money anymore? Just really curious.

I think they will stay in the industry by taking over jobs in the background of movie production or something. Or maybe make use of their college degree (Twall)

Once you know enough people, which most of them should, it's not too hard to find a job. Or you just make a movie or write a book about your career and hope it does well

mike clarke works with under armour last time i checked and makes their commercials, so he is doing just fine.

i can almost guarantee you he still skis as much as he can

I don't think they worry about it much until major injuries come up. Strenio freaked out about his future after his knee disintegrating rail crash. Injuries get you thinking about it, but most of the dudes having fun power through.

I wonder the same thing. Like what the hell is Steve Stepp going to do whenever the world forgets about him? Ski instructor at PC? Or will he be that 60 year old liftie that hasn't done anything but that and landscaping for his entire life?

Can't have it all

Pretty sure Steve Stepp would get fired from being a ski instructor cause he try to take beginners in the park or something crazy like that.

Steve has a college degree, so he'll probably be able to do more than operate a chairlift and lawnmower. In a world where businesses are relying more and more on the internet and social media channels for marketing, Steve has a pretty useful skill set.

sounds like you know him well enough to make a generalization like that

Well look at skating, most of those dudes from the late 80s and 90s own companies or some type of skate shop. Look at Keith Hufanagel he owns the comapany called HUF. There is the Berrics, Birdhouse, Eric Ellington owns Baker distribution, once the freesking culture becomes more "core" and all the big companies start falling out im sure we will see more rider owned companies popping up.

Imagine seeing a company owned and started by some of the 4bi9 guys, or a company by Martini and Vila. I mean fuck even Nick Goepper could start a company within the next 5 to 8 years. Granted he still young but when gets older i would not be surprised if he gets sick of these huge companies pushing him around and not having complete control of his perfect ski. Even the dudes at Nimbus are still somewhat young. I wouldnt be surprised if they start making there own skis.
