Liberty University/Lynchburg, VA

Hey NS,

I was just offered a job at Liberty University!!! I am looking at what all is around Lynchburg, VA since I am from Ohio. Recreational stuff, car scene, sports and restaurants.

Any low down on Lynchburg and that area would be great help thanks!

haha true. Well when I was down there, Knockout was sooooo fucking good. It's this little burger place. We went there a few times, never was disappointed. Other than that idk much to do in that city.

Cookout is bomb lol snowflex is awesome. There's some cool antique shops in downtown and some skate parks. Plus the indoor park on campus is pretty sick

If you're going to be in lynchburg, make sure to stay faar away from Liberty University... those people are fucking psychotic ass Jerry Falwell neocon tongue talkers

Thanks for the insight. I'm there to further career and work hard.

If it's science related it's a joke of a job. When your scientific research involves consulting the Bible instead of conducting repeatable experiments... You're not doing scientific research.

Haha yep. "Have fun learning biology without having to believe in evolutionary theory! you get to learn how god created everything in 7 days rather than dealing with the awful evil Darwinist truth that we descended from monkeys!"

It's actually pretty interesting. You can learn evolutionary biology and still believe in Christianity. I'm not sure of the specifics but there's actually connections made between evolution and the bible that can be used to support/prove evolution while still having faith in your religion. It's not as black and white as people make it out to be. These people just can't open their eyes to both sides. It's one or the other, there is no middle ground. It's nuts.

You're talking about intelligent design - which is the most garbage bullshit ever.

Religon and science are seperate and should be kept as such. Science lives in the material world while religon lives in the mind alone.

There really isn't a middle ground unless you want to practice pseudoscience...which is what this university apparently does when it come to the basics of biology.

At least for me, if I didn't understand or accept evolutionary theory, I would have a lot more difficult time piecing things together (especially in my upper division classes). The entire field makes little to no sense without it.

There is a difference between knowing the material and believing in it. As long as science is taught and understood, there is no issue. The student doesn't have to believe that evolution truly happened, just needs to learn it.

Similarly, an athiest should have no problem talking a religious studies class.

Is the science taught though? Keep in mind an undergrad degree from Liberty will get you into just as many grad schools as an undergrad from elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with believing in the stuff, however, if you were fed false information there, what implications will that have on your performance in the future?

So long as they adequately teach and represent evolutionary theory for what it is, I have no problem with it, however, I highly doubt that's the case.

I totally agree, from the sounds of it the curriculum is utter BS and should not be accepted. I was just speaking in generalities.
